After a long battle with a spark issue with my CR250 ignition I now have spark. Had to replace stator winding. Got one from Ricky Stator and had spark right away!!! Thanks to everyone that helped with that issue.

Now continuing on my quest to actually own a 250r that runs, I think I am having some fueling problems. Before explaining my problem I will give some details of my quad. Bore is only slightly larger than stock, has aftermarket reeds with spacer (not sure what brand), full FMF exhaust, and air box has been eliminated. I have an air stryker carb as well.

With choke on it will fire, give me a good roar and die. With the choke off and a bit of throttle it's about the same. Seems like the throttle kills it actually. I have taken the carb apart and cleaned the jets and circuits and there is fuel in the bowl. The reeds appear to be in good condition.

Also if I pour a bit of gas down the spark plug hole it goes for a second or two, again the throttle seems to kill it.

I must also mention that a few weeks ago it ran for several seconds before I had spark issues. I'm sure it will need jetted and what not, but it needs to run to do that.

Thanks!

Make sure pipe is clear and flows. Check main and silencer I had a field mouse make nest in mine over a weekend top end rebuild and took me forever to figure it out. Bike would run for few then shut off.

Smoke seem to be flowing out the exhaust fairly easily.

This is also a completely fresh engine. New gaskets, crank, piston, ect.

Install a 48 to 55 Pilot, leave the 190 (sounds big for your set-up, however; it should run Rich). Once she atrts up, keep the throttle cracked open and see if she stays running...if she does; you need to adjust the cable and throttle slide stop screw. The you can begin to adjust Pilot size and main with Plug Chops.

Threw in a 55 pilot slightly better but still will not "catch" fire and run

Ok. Exhaust is clear. Cleaned carb for what feels like the 10th time and finally got a short idle. 55 pilot 190 main 1 turn out on air screw. But still as soon as I blip the throttle is sputters and dies? What are the symptoms of a leaky crank seal?? Where can I buy stuff to do a leak down with both pressure and vacuum? Doing all this without the filter on, but don't think filter should make that much of a difference, I mean it should still run?

Any ideas on what this might be?

has bike ran before cr upgrade. have you done anything at same time. IF you did not change anything and it ran before ing change then put your old stuff back on see if it runs.

p.s I have horrible luck with anything from Ricky I know they are keeping things running put their are not very good. It can fire but when rpm pick up it could be shorting out. Also if you any type of kill switch remove it or by pass till you running again.

If the problem is a bad Ricky Stator...send it back to Ricky Stator with a copy of your purchase receipt. While issues can occur with Ricky Stator, it has been our experience they will exchange your Stator for a new one if the one you got is faulty. Don't confuse Ricky Stator with Rick's Electronics...different companies.

I'm now diff I have bought many parts from them. In last few years they are not as good. They will fix and usually pay for shipping back to them they have great customer service Just like you. But just saying not think that is not problem ,just cause it is new. 6 of last 7 stator parts I have got from them I had to send back. four decate4 stators, three stock trx ones.

I am going to throw a timing light on it tomorrow and see if I am loosing spark when I crack the throttle, probably won't get to do a leak down until this weekend though.

Unfortunately I bought this quad disassembled and have never seen it run, so I have no baseline.

Leak down test showed major leak around the reed valve. Tightened that up. Now if I put 8 psi in I lose close to 1 psi over 10 min. Keep in mind I'm using a quick thrown together tester and a 60 psi gauge. Is any leak acceptable? Used a little RTV to mate up the spacer plate, so will try to fire up tomorrow.

Could a major leak around the reed valve cause a quick fire and then die with throttle?
