Leak down test showed major leak around the reed valve. Tightened that up. Now if I put 8 psi in I lose close to 1 psi over 10 min. Keep in mind I'm using a quick thrown together tester and a 60 psi gauge. Is any leak acceptable? Used a little RTV to mate up the spacer plate, so will try to fire up tomorrow.

Could a major leak around the reed valve cause a quick fire and then die with throttle?
We shot for 1 PSI loss or less over 10 minutes; sounds like you are good to go.

PS: all major leaks can cause problems with carburation and performance as well as broken or cracked reeds, and bad or faulty electricals.

Still fires with a quick rev and then dies. Going to throw my buddies stator on tomorrow to make sure that I'm still not having spark issues. Engine is fresh, but going to check compression just to be sure.

What would cause spark loss upon start up? Plug is wet and slightly oily, so I'm assuming it's getting fuel. Smells like premix coming from exhaust. Have tried 42, 45, and 52 pilot jets and needle in bottom, mid,and top positions as well as different air screw adjustments. Totally stumped and getting really frustrated with this thing...

Still the damn stator!!! I'm thinking this stator is cursed!!! How does it give me enough spark to fire up but not enough to run? Has a brand new Ricky Stator winding? What should I look for? What would cause this? Can the pickup go bad?
