Hi

I am currently running a set of haulers size 20x10x10 8 paddle. i am thinking of upgrading to a set of 22x11x8 8 paddle. Looking to see what other people are running. I have heard some people talking about the taller tires on a 8 inch rim are a better tire in the dunes. They might not look as good as the 10 inch rims but work better, what are your thoughts on this

22" are more of a drag/dune set up. If you wanted more of a trail/dune set up or maybe something in between, you could try a 21" tire. The 21 will give you a bit more hookup and a smoother ride than a 20, but still have a bit less sidewall to roll over in the turns. Depends on your riding style and what you prefer. When going with the taller tires, guys talk about roll out or circumference. Most guys running 22" tires run anywhere from 69" to 72" roll out. Don't quote me on those numbers though. The drag guys on here will have better info on that.

Agree. 22's are the way to go for the hill but require more work since they are less stable when duning. I generally run either 21's or 22's on my bikes. I run a 22" Skat SLS for my quad which sees a good amount of racing / hillshooting, and a 21" STU comp cut Brat on my little ATC 310. The Brat is an incredible duning tire but cost alot - love it on my ATC though.

there is a lot more to tire selection than that. I have always used tire size as a fine tuning tool for gearing. Asyou know you have your front sprocket that makes the biggest difference in final drive, you have your rear sprocket to dial in your gearing in a little more and your tires are the finest degree of gear ratio. If you have a lot of engine a 22" tire is a no brainer. If you have a stock ported cylinder or even a mild 310 cylinder you will probably enjoy a 14 tooth front sprocket with a 38-39 tooth rear sprocket on a 21" 8 paddle hauler. the 8" rim will allow the tire to twist a little more and provide more traction and more torque transfer while the 10" tire will allow for better handling in the dunes. either tire and rim combo will allow you to both ride dunes and hill shoot/ drag, and most wont even feel the difference until you REALLY know your bike.

With my 310 with trx9 port work, 40.5 mm carb, trx5 pipe, vf3 reeds, and race gas dome I was running 14t front,39 rear, 21 10 10 hauler and the set up really did well for me. I just sent my cylinder to Neil for his ultra mid range port and I bet I have to switch to a 22" tire, and a 36 tooth rear. or I might even have to leave the rear a 39, tires @21" and bump the front up to a 15. The only place you will see a noticeable difference in tires is at the hill or strip.

I have 20x10-10 and 21x12-8 eight paddle Haulers as well as 20x10-10 Sand Skate II's and 21x12-8 nine paddle haulers... By far, my favorite combination is the 21x12-8 nine paddles on 8x10 wheels. Very wide footprint gives tons of traction when the sand gets really dry and soft. The 20x10-10 Haulers just ride too rough for my taste when the sand gets choppy, but they work great on our 85 ATC.

my first set of haulers were 20-10-10 and i always had a problem with getting sand in the bead and bending wheels. this was partially from the small sidewall and mostly from my abusive riding style. i switched to 22-11-8 and haven't had those issues since. the taller tire will help with ground clearance and they give a softer ride and tend to hook up better in my opinion, but they are also harder to slide and moves your center of gravity up a little bit. currently i don't have a set but maybe you could find someone who would let you try them for a ride and see for yourself.
