85 and 86 cranks have Short Rods, 87 to 89 cranks have Long Rods.....use a Spacer plate on BB cylinders with Long Rod cranks. FYI...al Short rod 250R cranks have the same Length Rod from 85 to 86, and all Long Rod cranks have the same Long Rod length from 87 to 89.

Ok so I'm trying to identify the rod I do a search Honda 250 r rod ka4 and its shows what your stating 85 86 rod trx and atc can you help me identify this and confirm please and if I dry fit this will the piston pop way above the top on a long rod

KA4 rods are Short, 85 and 86....NO Spacer plate needed.

HA2 rods are Long, 87 to 89....3/16" Spacer Plate needed for normal BB builds.

No, with the short rod KA4, NO Spacer Plate is needed, the piston outer edges should be below top deck, or even with the top deck.
