Intrest in Stock Linkage Upgrade

Im looking to see how much interest there would be in a upgraded linkage setup for the stock 250r geometry. We all know people can by a CR 500 link setup for a better shock system. But it requires a lot of money and modifications to the frame or a new frame.

A friend (also suspension sponsor of mine) and I are thinking about designing and better linkage setup for the 250r. Basically it would be a bolt in linkage that you can buy ( you will also need to have your rear shock re valved/sprung most likely) and install at home. The goal is to increase rear travel and the leverage ratio on the rear end. The current linkage is complete garbage and does some funky things as you compress it further.

It is all preliminary at this point, but have been thinking that it would be a great mod for the 250R crowd.

Ya Dustin realized that he didnt have the time to handle all the work he was receiving. He is very knowledgeable and started to get a lot of business very quickly because of that. It became an issue because its not his primary job, more something he was doing on the side and realized how much time it would take to do his suspension business correctly.

As for the linkage design, i dont know where he is at currently with it. He has my frame and suspension in his shop now. I hope he is still planning on designing something. But as of right now there isnt a set date that it will be done.

Burns was any progress made for the link. The ease of using a bolt in link and reworking either OEM or aftermarket 250r shock sounds awesome. I just sent my rear OEM in to be setup to match a new set of front hls's.

I would like to know asap that way I could get my shock setup for the new link instead. Also thanks for the shock reference. Dustin said he was trying to get out of business and sent me to maul tech. Both helped a lot. Would buy the link no hesitation.

He will be looking into the YFZ shock linkage to. The problem witht hat is that the YFZ shock is longer thane the 250r shock, so i that will require buying a different shock. My goal was to use the stock 250r shock to cut cost down. Basically you will have to buy a linkage setup, and revalve your shock to fit it, also no frame modification. It will minimize cost and hopefully maximize shock travel.

Ya it would be nice if it was as simple as new linkage and revalve the shock.

I was looking at the YFZ setup this past weekend and it really looks like an easy swap with a mod to the swingarm. I didnt take any measurements but the one mounting point will need to be moved on the stock 250R swing arm.....OR...... I have seen where they put a 250R engine in a yfz frame using the YFZ swingarm. So, maybe swap a YFZ swingarm to the 250R? Once again I havent taken any measurements but just throwing ideas out there. I have a YFZ swing arm at the house....I'll see what I can come up with.

The frame/shock/linkage are at my suspension guys shop now. He is working on a new linkage setup. I havent heard if he has come up with anything yet. He has been busy setting up my XC/MX shocks for the 2013 season. Hopefully he get started on the linkage after that.

Would be a great hing. I have just changed over to 400ex shock and linkage. But I ended up having to have new swing arm made for it to work right. Even after that I'm now having problems with gt thunder mx link. Shock has to much up travel and spring hits swinger. I would scape all of this if some one comes up with something. Like every once I don't want to have to buy new frame. P.s my rear shock is a pep zps. I know ex stock shocks are no good

I think this is a great idea. I suggested it to six5 so hopefully he'll come up with something but i would imagine it would be strictly for his swingarm. If you could come up with a link that will work with a few different setups it would help alot of guys out. It would be awesome to see more stock framed R's being competitive on the track again. One of the good things about a 250 is how cheap they can be to build but if you need an expensive aftermarket frame that requires expensive and hard to find a-arms and swingarm to be competitive it's not always worth it to build the older machine.

A better linkage sounds great. Until then, I'm going to try the no-link route. I've haven't had any luck finding a roll design one longer than 17.5" so I'm going with a KOQ swingarm. It has a gullwing bend to it like the Roll. It is 17.875" on a rough measurement. Assuming its 17.75 or 18. Hoping its 18. The best parts is, it sells for 499 new. About the same as a used Roll. I've got the shock and a skid plate on the way. After I get the skid, I'll be shipping it to KOQ for them to fit up skid plate mounts on it. The only bad thing is they say you have to cut the linkage mount off of the back of the frame. I hope it works good. I want to set it up for dunes and desert. I want to be able to pound through whoop sections.

I think its an excellent idea. I've looked into this myself, laid it out in CAD. The main problem I saw was there is only a couple variables or "knobs" to turn as far as making changes to the stock setup. Unless of course you include the swingarm. If you don't include the swingarm and consider it fixed, then you have 2 lengths and the length of the shock to basically adjust. You can get more travel and possibly better leverage ratio but may sacrifice ground clearance cause the link will hang lower. Just some trade-offs to think about. By all means go for it, even slightly better would be well worth the time and effort!! I'm tuned in...

A 450r linkage and shock will work I dont know how it will act through its length of travel but it bolts up. The dude from Six5designs was supposed to be making stuff for us but he seems like a clown more interested in making what he can sell the same day. Hopefully your buddy can come through for us Burns!
