Yes, you need pull out your bearing and fit behind that.

 

Thanks everyone . First time tearing into the ol girl . Im a dirtbike guy . Had a newer 450 quad never had to work on it . Bought a 250r and decided their was no point in owning that 450 anymore. Beat the piss out my 250 all summer and jus had to do the bearings .

You need to heat the carrier at 200F for 1 hour to get the bearings to drop easily. You can try a slightly lower temp like 175F, might work....however; not only will the coating get a little darker, above 180F the Anodizing will crack due to the difference In thermal expansion & conductivity between the Aluminum carrier and the much lower thermal conductivity & expansion of Anodizing.

Heat up the carrier and smack it on a 2x4. Usually fall out for me

 

yup, just changed my bearings and thats what I did to the old ones. heat up the outside of the carrier around the bearing area and smack it hard a few times on a wooden work bench or like suggested a 2x.

Is their a way to get them out of the carrier with out damaging them ?

They go in-between carrier pipe and bearing so bearings will have to popped out again!

 

Ya it is a 86.. So I Gota pull the bearings and put them in first right.

 

86's have those between the collar and the bearings

 

No not yet i just put the carrier in The swingarm and seen them and was like ught o .little too late to work on now have to be up in a few hours for work in the morning . Thanks

 

to tell you the truth ive never seen shims on a carrier. have you checked your brake rotor/caliper clearance?

 

Im thinking they go behind the bearings but im not sure . And i already have the bearings in the carrier.
