I have a 1986 250r that came in a box and I have it all back together and went to kick it over, the second the kick start gets to the bottom of the kick it throws my foot back. Does this mean that my piston is on exhaust when its trying to fire?

Any info is appreciated. Thanks.

did you remove the stator/flywheel or counter balancer? has it ran before?

is the ignition grounded? with good clean metal connection?

is the crank woodruff key intact?

carb getting fuel? got spark?

Post pictures, the information is not enough to determine what is going on. Could be the engine is assembled wrong, timming could be off, fuel delivery off, electrical problems, ect...need to determine what you have first.
