Hello everyone, I am new to the site. I recently purchased my first TRX250R. It is an almost all stock 1986 model and I am the third owner. I am not new to riding; been riding 4-stroke ATV's for about 10 or 12 years and 2 stroke dirt bikes for about 3 years.

Everything on the bike seems like it is in good shape for it's age, but the engine is a little tired. I took the cylinder off a few days ago to put in a fresh top end because compression was low. When I was inside of the engine, I pulled up and down on the rod and I can feel what I consider a mild to moderate amount of play. I would rather correct this issue now than have it cause me problems down the line. I have searched around the internet for the last few hours, and I see that the best rod kit to go with is the Pro-X rod with my OEM crank. According to what I have read, the 1986 TRX250R takes the same rod kit as the CR250 dirt bike, so I imagine it is still available for purchase. I am not really interested in running a Hot Rods or Wiseco crank, seems like these Chinese cranks are nothing but problems.

My real question is where should I send my crank to have the new rod installed? I have tried searching for this and can't seem to find any info. I have dealt with CrankWorks in the past, but it was with a 4 stroke crank. So, who do you guys trust to rebuild your cranks?

Thank you for any help!

I can do mine, but I wouldnt even think of offering it as a service.
Check around at some of the machine shops close by you & question them if they could do it. You might get lucky & find one has a worker there that has done them before.
Needs to be somebody that has done a bunch, because the crank needs to be true perfect, so dont let joe blow says he can mess with it.

We only rebuild Honda 2 Stroke CR80R-CR500R, TRX250R and ATC250R crankshafts, and don't rebuild any crankshafts for any other brands or models. We also do all the Big Bore crank builds with KTM, YZ and CR rods for the TRX250R and ATC250R Sphinx, saber and Puma's.

If we didn't have all the fixtures, inspection plates and balancing capabilities for the Honda cranks, it would not be a pleasant task.
