Perhaps the tpc 450s are good on the mx track with good riders but if youre talking power maybe you outta do some drags to show the power.

I would never use mx as an example, the suspension is to much of an advantage.

My references were in fact in drag racing in the sand at places like sand mountain (Utah), imperial dunes, Florence (Oregon) to name a few. Although, in the flat track and ice races they have not been able to get us on the starts either. That also includes 400cc banshees.

I should be at Dumont and imperial dunes the same week dirt wheels will be doing the test, that is why I offered to attend it.

I will admit though i do know that one former member here has a titanium chassis with a puma 250R and a banshee powered one as well drag set ups that I could not touch. In fact I am sure there are many pure crazy built drags bikes that would smoke us. But that is a different story and not what this thread is about.

on another note(and not to thread hi jack), what if dirtwheels did a trike super issue that had a tecate, tri z, ATC R, and a tpc, all done up with the R having a puma motor out in the dunes! That would be a sick issue! Further more, why the hell isnt DW covering these trike races?

We have been trying to get dirt wheels to do just what you mentioned. Over the years there has been a few mentions in the "over the bars" section but not much more. Although, a little birdie has told me that might change in the near future.

I miss the days before DW sold out...

To bad DirtWheels does not have the appetite (at least not yet) to stack up Trikes against each other or vs Quads. Maybe in the future....:)

I also believe you can have too much engine in a Trike for MX, we already know that, and Dave's Trike is detuned and yet the BDT 330 is a bit much. I personally like Tom's little BDT 250....plenty of power, more than enough to get the job done, and controlable. NO need to get into what is faster or better, the Trike racing season is upon us, with the National Trike race in March, and Ashtabula later in the the year, we will all have plenty to talk about , and really see if a little BDT 250 or a BDT 330 can hang with a modern day 450 Trike....I look forward to the challenge, as I know you Bill and many others...:)

As far as the DirtWheels shoot out, it is set.....it is also Dale's doing that the 250R is getting prime exposure in the pages of DirtWheels....that we should all support and be extremly pleased with.....it is all good press for the 250R.

I would love to see this happen. Dirtwheels has been lame the last few years and thats why I let subscription run out. Since the manufactures haven't come out with anything new as far as sport quads and I don't really care about 4x4's or UTV's. It would be nice to see them show more of the older quads being restored and or modded. Even their race coverage is none existant. they might cover a couple rounds at once with a couple paragraphs a few pics. 250Rjunky maybe you can tell Cain some of our concerns when you meet up with them.

Atv 4 wheel action formerly 3&4 wheel atv action

i get that mag with my dt wheels every month. not into the utv's though. but i must say that on one occasion we spotted one in front of us on the trail's and we never see theem so it was wow. i thought i was going to catch right up to it but i was wrong that thing impressed me as it flew through the trails

maybe one of the editors should through a leg over an r for a ride. that might spark some intrest
Actually that Is what happened....the editor "through a leg over an r", he took Dale's BDT363R for a 20 minute spin, and said "WOW"...hence the article last year on Dale's awesome TRX, and the further interest to find quads that would 'stack up' and give the BDT 363R a good challenge.

Been on this site awhile i always see postings of i can beat your 4 stroke with my carbed stroked and ported 2 stroke. and no one posts if the 450's they want or did beat up on had any engine mods besides an exhaust. i have 3 450's with engine mods but i don't know how they would do against any 250's as i don't get to race against any pound for pound. Sure you can build any bike to out perform the other. So putting builds of compreable value's 450 vs 250 would best determine the outcome. Now don't get this all twisted and through stones at me. its just a fact.

I know exactly what your saying. However, 4 strokes are not as great as people are hyping up. My Neil ported ESR 310 has out ran many formidably built 450's including Suzuki ltr450s with a great motor set up for duning, TRX450s ported cammed and dyno tuned, yfz 450s cammed ported and dyno tuned, Carbed raptor 728 bb built by Racers Edge, raptor 700 FI with motor work like big bore head work, dyno tuned etc.... The strongest and most consistent being a mid 60's hp BB raptor dyno tuned and built by Racers Edge. I have never dynoed my bike but I am assuming it is in the upper 50s range jetted and suspension tuned by me. Hill shooting up buttercup valley competition hill. The races are won in the hole shot and the top of the hill. My bike pulls harder on the top than any of the 4 pokers, and launches hard out of the hole for a 310. The thing that bothers me is that a lot of people talk so much about horse power but its not the horse power that wins the races its the riding skills of the rider coupled with the set up of the bike from the motor to the suspension to the wheels tires and gearing. I can beat almost any bike out there through the whoops with suspension tuning and practice keeping my rear wheels on the ground as much as possible and the front end skimming across the top of each whoop.

Again keep in mind that I am talking about bikes I know my engines comparable to. Obviously I am not gonna go and race a 75+ hp bike. But if you take the cost associated with building and maintaining a four stroke you are way ahead if you would have built a 2-stroke. Building a four stroke that would hang with a big puma or sabertooth you would be double the cost on a four stroke.
