I've heard the bottom ends on the 250r are tough to tear down and rebuild correctly. I'm thinking of saving myself 300 and tackling a crank replacement myself. Any tips or tricks? Or should i leave it to the pro's?
Thanks
Fred

I disagree. Knowledge is power. 2 strokes are stupid easy compared to 4 strokes, so if you can't figure on of these out with the forum and service manual available to you, then I don't know what to tell ya. Not trying to be rude, but any idiot can learn to rebuild one of these. The guys at the dealership were once idiots too (some still are), all they have is a SERVICE MANUAL and some tools. They read the directions, and do the work. There is no magic wand in the service department. All the guys in the service department are typically younger than I am, and I am only 31. It's not rocket science. If you learn to do it yourself you will save TONS of money, learn a LOT, and be able to diagnose your own problems.

There is no dealer with service department on the sand.... You are the service department. If you do not have knowledge and creativity, time to load up when it stops running.....

The mystery is over.. with service manual and this forum in hand.. it wasn't that difficult to tear down. I'm waiting for some parts.. but in the mean time i rebuilt a kx125 bottom end.. very similar to 250r.. and it was easy too. Glad i did it myself. Thanks for everyone's help.
