gonna regret it, but it just sits in the garage. 1996 ktm 550 motor, european phillips chassis. it's a terry phillips racing european production quad. price is firm, and located in the northwest corner of PA.

front wheel bearings need replaced, and needs seals, and the spacers that the nut rides against.

axis rear shock needs rebuilt, has 450r front shocks on it, stiff as a board, and have the old pep fronts that were on it when i got it, they arent pretty.

plastic isn't great.

brakes are nothing to write home about either, but are ok.

one of the spring tabs on the exhaust is broke off, and the silencer mount was broke and rewelded at some point in time(ugly and not the right way).

runs pretty good. buddy said it was like riding a 250r on steriods, i say it's more like a GOOD running quadzilla, lots of flywheel and deceptively fast.

it's heavy and big, built solid. have extra shorter tt/flattrack swing arm, original purple maier plastic(nothing great), the factory seat, and mikuni carb that was on it, keihin on it now(39mm).

lots of info on the ktm 550 over on ktmtalk, parts are getting discontinued but other options are available. probably the only motor that runs better with less compression:huh:

i travel for work, so sometimes i'm home, sometimes i'm gone for a month or more.

believe me i can hold on to it! but in reality it's just gonna sit around, not much time to ride and no riding close to me. it has the potential to become the most bad ass quad build of all time(or one of), but as my history goes... dump a bunch of money into something and sell it for about half that.

ya, ktm discontinued about half the motor parts, but some are available from aftermarket companies. the clutch basket is the question mark, some say later model four strokes use the same basket, but off hand i don't remember which models/yrs. the brake pads(brembo calipers) and rear sprocket are question marks with the chassis, but some time on the keyboard and they should be answered. the rear axle is probably specific to the phillips from the looks of it, pretty beefy though, like the rest of the chassis.
