Hi everyone,

I'm fixin to fire off a TRX250R that I put together from a basket case and I've been advised that I'd be smart to run atleast 110 octane but I was thinking that the 110 is Leaded??

Can I just run leaded or unleaded any time I want?

Say I back it down to 93 unleaded because I learn later it doesnt really need 110 and it safely runs 93?? Then what??

Whats the story here??

Unleaded (for all intents and purposes assuming is safe for the motor) mixed 32:1 with HP2 = SAFE
Leaded mixed 32:1 = SAFE

Is that how it goes in simple terms??

Thanks Y'all!!

I run 91...it depends what dome you have.for 4 gallons I put 16oz of benol...works and always has.I think thats 32:1..I used to run turbo blue but I realized you dont need that unless you have a big bore motor.

I would only run race gas in a 2stroke, cause that pump gas 87,91,and 93 octane have that ethanol stuff in it and that kills a 2stroke motor.

the Lead should be beneficial to upper cylinder lubrication. i think you'll be ok running the leaded fuel. most if not all race gas is leaded i believe and lots of people use it.

That frigging AMA...:)

I always recommend to run Race Fuel, 110 is fine. Mostly beacuse of the consistency, cooler running, and detonation prevention properties Race Fuel provides specially at eleveated compression ratios.

Carlos.

Lead increases the detonation resistance (octane) of the fuel.

This is one of the ways that the AMA helped to kill the two stroke in Pro-racing, by banning the use of leaded fuel.
I was not aware that the AMA had banned leaded fuel. Is that strictly Pro racing or is that for any type of national AMA racing?

Any AMA sanctioned event, Pro or Am rider.
Loose lips sink ships though.
AMA, had this big kick a few years back about loud pipes, because out in the public was a lot of talk about the noise. Came up with a 98 DBA sound test, even went as far as getting & using the testing stuff, just to show John Q public something was being done. What a bunch of bunk, dang 4 pokes are louder now than they were before, BUT, John Q public thinks every one is being tested.

^_^ just remember the loose lips.

Here in CT, leaded fuel is not taxed, unleaded fuel is. I run Supreme 112 leaded in my R, and for my kids crf hybrid I asked the Sunoco distributor (for all New England) what they had since his stock motor only requires 91 octane.

Lowest octane leaded was the 110.
Lowest octane unleaded was 98 (I think)

But the unleaded had a higher price per gallon because the state puts a tax on unleaded fuel...almost a $1 a gallon.
