I think you have it backwards. +3+2 will make you wider since the 3" is to the inside and 2" is to the outside. +4+1 is narrower by following the same measurements.
I have two sets of hiper fronts (+4+1 and +3+2). I have +3+1 long travel arms and I also ride XC. This is the reason why I'm selling my +3+2s.
Adavis, check atvmaniacstore. I picked up my whole set (22" front/20" rear) of GBC XC Masters for $263 shipped. That was the cheapest I could find until I saw that sam's club online had them for about $220 shipped. I just don't have that membership. Basically the Masters are the same as the X-Rex, just changed name due to legality reasons (what I've heard).
Anyways, here's a post explaining the offsets. Even though it's about a different quad, it helps explain it better than I can. Opel has it right about bumpsteer and all of that. There are advantages and disadvantages in going with different offsets, as per anything you choose.
