im having the same issue right now,
took top end apart, worn rings low compression.
shop checked it out and honed it for me and ordered the corresponding piston part number.
put everything together and the piston smacks the dome and cant roll over to go back down.
as if siezing.
if i loosen the head bolts than it will.. its poking up about the same as yours is.
i have a spacer plate 88 motor with an 86 style piston, old and new piston numbers match.
i tried to add another base gasket and it was closer but not enough, so theres three there now.
do i need to try four?
why did the old piston fit but not the new, they have the same p/n.
