I got a paul turner motor a few months ago and decided to paul the head and cyl off to see how it looked. When I took the head off with the piston all the way up it is 2-3mm from coming all the way to the top. Its running a 2mm spacer and 87-89 piston..so my question is does this motor need this spacer?? Or should this motor be using the yz250 piston set up?? Seems like it would be just fine without spacer. It is a long rod motor with a 66mm bore thanks in advance for any help!! this pic is without spacer this pic is with spacer

Best advice IMO

FYI....the use of the YZ piston and a thin spacer plate was common practice for PT cylinders. As RK88R posted, call The source of the PT cylinders.

i am having some issues with this motor running right..i called duncan and they wanted me to send them
the whole topend set-up...any one else have any ideas? also i am pretty sure it doesnt use the
yz style piston cause its only a 66mm bore and from what i can tell its never had the sleeve changed..

If you don't want to degree wheel the port timing, and see what you have, then I would send it to them as requested & stated by Robert3119 & others. Once you degree the ports, you can tell if a spacer plate is needed, and how thick, plus then you can also see what the cylinder was ported for and set the proper squish.

PS: you don't need to have or had the cylinder sleeved to run a YZ250 piston...:)

Send them the Motor. But if the top of piston does not sit above deck run it. If they put a spacer on it and it did not need it bike would run like poop!

Yes. Because it say paul turner does not mean it one of his National motors that use the yz piston. Not saying it is or is not. It also may run bad do to bad reeds. Best thing to do is sent it to them.
