Hi all, just picked up a 88 250r - have always wanted one! I'm in my mid 30's and had a 88 yamaha warrior as a teenager and my uncle had a built 86r 250r which was raced in the supercross and I always loved riding it. Finally was able to pick one up!

So this is my first 2 stroke atv (have a leaf blower and weed eater :>) and will probably need some help on things. I live in upstate NY and picked it up in Long Island. Its in great condition with 295cc Rudy Kurtz engine / ported head and curtis sparks pipe / esr silencer, open airbox. It's running 100 octane at 32:1 with what I think is a 38mm Keihin cab, I need to verify.

Upon startup it smoking quite a bit more than I expected. I got a alot of parts with it but no extra jets or info on jets from the owner. I ran it for about 30 minutes and pulled the plug and it's a brand new plug but is black and has some wet oil / oil buildup on it. It's definitely running very rich (and it's in the 50's here today). Thing has gobs of power though.

I guess I'll start reading on how to remove the jets and report back on the exact carb model and jet sizes. Will need some help from you all on where to go next. Thanks in advance!
