Well I finaly picked up an R. She's a 1986 that was mostly stock with only a few aftermarket parts added.
I would have had pics when it was together but I go so excited that once we started tearing down all that was left is the frame. One thing about working on these older quads you really have to look at EVERYTHING!! I've built newer bikes and tookt he frame and hardware for granted. This R has worn bolts everywhere and finding more cracks every time I look!! We are sandblasting the frame so I'll be really looking this thing over then.
One thing I noticed when I tore into the engine is the distance between the top of the piston and the top of the cylinder. The piston doesn't come all the way up to the top? There is a few MM betweent he two. When you cycle the engine at BDC the top of the piston is even with the bottom of the exhaust and appears to be correct. Is this normal for the 250R IF so what cc dome can I run and still use pump gas, 92 or 93 octane?
These are the only pics I have for now. We are having a Noreaster and the snow doesn't stop. So what do you do??
