Do you let your friends ride your R?

Hey everyone. I went riding last weekend with some friends I've never ridin with before. One guy, who rides a bone stock 400EX, asked if he could take my R for a spin and in exchange I could ride his. When I told him no, he kind of took offense to it. I would normally let anyone ride any of my four stroke machines, but my R is just a different story. I tried to explain that it wasn't personal, I just don't feel comfortable letting anybody else ride it. Am I wrong here, or does anyone else feel like that?

Yes and no. They guys I ride with all the time I would. And maybe friends that I know would respect it and would pay for what ever they broke if they wrecked. I have some friends that have no experience riding a quad and don't have respect for others peoples things that if I did let them they would ride it like they stole it and don't have the cash to fix so they get the big NO. I always knida felt like a prick in the past not wanting to let people ride my stuff but after my cousin wrecked my Predator a couple years ago now its easy to tell someone "no, I let someone ride it before and they crashed it, sorry but i'd rather you didn't".

All the guys I ride with all have Rs. So it's kinda a good time to switch out quads during rides.
Keep in mind I've known these guys for 25 plus years.

Now for the others....Hell NO.
I've had a more than a few ask. I've had no problem telling them no.

I go by "If you can start it...you can ride it". So far everyone that has asked to ride my Polonda has failed to start it. And honestly if anyone did succeed in starting it, they more than likely can be trusted to ride it. Starting a high compression 85mm bore drag motor is not something most people have had the chance to experience. Especially a forward kicking one like the R.

Definitely not wrong. A few (20) years ago, at a favorite riding spot, seen a fella hand over his brand new kx500 to somebody(wearing jeans tshirt sneakers) that didn't ride or wasnt prepared or experienced enough(one or the other or all), the guy looped it on the first berm broke his leg the bike went air born down an embankment into a muddy creek. My first and last Blaster was wrecked by a "friend" who thought nothing of the damage he caused by side swiping a tree, he told me these machines are made to beat on. I havent spoke much to him since then.
You gotta know your friends too, I wouldnt get on something that i couldnt afford to fix, help repair or handle, I think a real friend would understand that and not ask or accept.
Ive caused some bad feelings initially with another friend by saying no, the guy cant afford to fix it. He can stick to his dynaglide with apehangers street bike(Ive declined the offer to take it for a ride). We're still friends.
If its somebody you barely know, why risk it?

I completely agree with you Winky. I only have one friend ill let ride it. Thats because he is into it like i am and he can afford to fix what gets broken. Other than that i have a few friends that i know would ask and luckily i havent been around them at the right time to be asked. Risking your R and someone who has never drove one is to dangerous and likely to happen in my opinion. I still tell my buddy every time he has drove it "2 times" that he fixes it if he breaks it lol.. That little reminder i think keeps him off the gas a little better haha..

I let friends ride my bike but we all have built bikes and know how to ride. It's mostly my cousin who has had a banshee,cr250, and now TRXR. My other friend has had every 2 stroke you could think of built up now he's running a 421 cub(he doesn't realize he's gonna be playing catch up wih his 90hp yet).

I don't let anyone just take mine for a ride. If they have an equally powered bike with basically the same expense in their project, I will swap bikes with them for a short period. The times that I have done this, like me the other rider spent more time feeling the suspension and handling than they did feeling how powerful the engine was. In the past when I would let a "buddy" ride one of my bikes, the only thing they wanted to do was rev the piss out of it and either grind gears or over-use the clutch. Now that I am older, it is a respect thing. If I can sit around and share building experiences with another rider, they generally have the same respect for my bike as they do for their own. Its hard to explain why you would let someone you barely know ride your bike and you won't let your best friend. When that situation came up, I told him the truth, that I wouldn't let him ride an lt80 let alone my R. We don't talk much anymore. Oh well, I'm just an a$$ like that.

nobody rides my suff anymore, not even my trx250 4poke!!! had a "friend " who rode 4x4 quads, take my R out on a quick ride in the dunes. he thought it would be a good idea to take a shortcut across a large mud puddle. basicalllly hydro locked the motor, blew the cylinder off, cracked cases, bent crank etc... Had to take him to small claims court to get him to fix it. he found an article that stated manufactures build quads to handle mudd and water, since mine had been modified from stock, i was responsible for the repairs !!! never again, find your own:(

Depends on who it is, my close friends yes because they all know how to ride 2 strokes. New friends I don't know all to well, I might let them ride it if 1 I watch them ride their machine and they look confident on it and 2, what do i get to ride in return? Oh and 3 are you a jackass? If so then no, I'm here to have fun and enjoy myself.
