Do you let your friends ride your R?

Hey everyone. I went riding last weekend with some friends I've never ridin with before. One guy, who rides a bone stock 400EX, asked if he could take my R for a spin and in exchange I could ride his. When I told him no, he kind of took offense to it. I would normally let anyone ride any of my four stroke machines, but my R is just a different story. I tried to explain that it wasn't personal, I just don't feel comfortable letting anybody else ride it. Am I wrong here, or does anyone else feel like that?

Youre not in the wrong at all. I only let friends ride it who have 2 stroke experience. Most family/friends won't ride it because they're afraid they'll lose control when it hits the powerband. and the only reason I let my gf ride it is cause she needs to practice, although I'm sitting on the back hanging on to the kill switch cord so she doesn't hurt herself.

Thanks guys. If someone was actually interested in two strokes and I though they might be inlcined to get a 250r of their own, I'd let them ride it in a heartbeat. Im the only one in my group that was lucky enough to grow up riding both 4-strokes and 2-strokes. Seems like these days some people don't even know what a 2-stroke is and when ever I try to explain the difference to my friends they get that same facial expression my dog gets when he's watching tv.

I don't let other people ride my Rs...I'm like you I just don't feel comfortable. I've had people offer to let me ride their 4-strokes, but I don't do it because I'm not going to let them ride my Rs, lol.

i let some people take the smaller motors for a ride but unless they have an equally powerful quad or good enough friend they pay for the damages, they wont touch the puma.

it depends on the person if they ride like a jackass and dont respect things no, if they are a good rider and ride within their means and are trustworthy a short ride would be okay. i guess because when i was young i rode with alot of people with really nice quad complete race quads from baja 1000, big bad strokers bikes making 70hp way back when in 2000.and they let me take em for rides when i all i had to ride was a 1988 warrior redid the topend on. I am open to the right person to ride my things but only the normal items not the special ones.

so it just depends on situation and person honestly.

i dont let anyone drive my car that i dont trust with my life.

I'm a little weary of some people riding my quads, I let anyone ride my old raptor, my shee I only let experienced friends ride it(let one friend who rides a work quad ride, and he rode it like a girlpants and never even touched the powerband, needless to say, hes asked to ride my r and I change the subject) but i am teaching my gf to ride on my r. She rode the shee a little, but never on it hard. But she now says she wants to get good and be fast(she's 5'3 98lbs soaking wet) I said, sure ill build a drag quad you fund!!!

Same experience, minor details changed. "My Buddy" rolled mine and said it was my fault cause i had 400ex shocks on it and it didnt handle like his old R did. But it gave me a reason to buy a bunch of aftermarket stuff i had been wanting :)

I dont let 4poke guys ride my smokers or bikes heres why.... I'm a little guy, but been riden all my life so can whail around at a decent clip and make it seem pretty easy. Well my big old 4poke buddys see me doing it think its just that easy.. buddy of mine took my yz250 (Just put new plastic and graphics on it)for a spin. He takes off like a bat outta hell on some fairly loose dirt front tire 2 foot in the air for 100 yards . Next time by hes out in the grass field where its a little more hard pack. He hits 3rd and the powerband ... Over they went .... He ended up busting his lower leg ,had thor mxboots on but I think the bars fell on him, had to miss a ton of work ect.. well hes back in to riden his yfz but i wont anyone else on these bikes or quads Unless i feel they are my skill or higher.

My rule is, if they have enough balls to ask to ride my quad or motorcycle, they have the balls to crash it and walk away. I have some friends that I trust and guess what, they never ask to ride any of my toys. I have asked them if they want to give them a try and most of the time they pass.

I let a couple of my close friends I grew up with ride my banshee a few times just in an open field. I let my best friend ride my R and all my toys but he helps me work on them and put them together anytime I need help so I feel it's okay plus he can afford to pay for damages that are his fault. If the motor acts up or anything hes a good mechanic so he will fix it.

Not a chance on my friends riding my R. It might not be much but it's mine and I don' share. The only one I let ride it is my uncle who helps work on it and my 14 year old daughter who is scared to death of it. But she's just learning other than those people NO WAY!!!

I only let good buddies ride it and most turn the offer down. I have met a few guys at the coast that offer their 450 to me and I politely turn it down. I feel like once you ride a 4stroke you have rode them all. I have too much money into mine to let just anyone ride it.

When my trike was semi-stock there were about 8 people I trusted enough to let them ride my R. But now that it's nowhere near stock the list is down to about 4.... And every one of them has 2-stroke experience.

When i had my 3 wheeler it had a very nice set of oem fenders on it, had a dead spot in the carb and i left it setting at the truck while i took my boy to the flat spots at the chat piles we ride at on a warrior he was riding (he was 7). I had plans on parking the warrior and me and him walking back and getting my 3 wheeler together. I get about half way where i was going and my 3 wheeler past me on the grab bar, alone...... When my dumbass friend fell off the back of it because the dead spot cleared up he stuck his size 12 retarded ass foot threw my rear fenders and tore the shit out of them. I was so mad it wasnt even funny, then about two hours later i forgot to pick the leg up on the jack of his brand new dump trailer and we took off and tore the jack, and the cross brack that went frrom side to side of the trailer supporting it plum off. I had to get un pissed off about my fenders after that. No one was allowed to ride it after that. It was a bad day.

I only let a very few people ride my r. My brother, uncle and my brothers brother in law. If your gonna touch my bike you better know what your doin or have a pocket full of money. My brother rides it because its still half his. Haha and I have done so mych to it since he owned it, and when its broke he helps me fix her.

Hell yes I do. It is my duty to bring as many people to the church of the R as possible and nothing preaches the gospel like letting them hold on for dear life as they crack the throttle.
Truth be known - 99% of the people I hang out with love to ride it but either hate the "kick start" or "no reverse" or "it feels like there's nothing underneath you" feeling.
4 strokers - gahh I don't get em!

Yea I let some folks ride it if they ask, and I know them. Most of my friends either have experience on 2 strokes or know their limits and ride like they have sense. I dont ask to ride other ppls stuff, and usually turn it down if offered to me. Ive got my own shit to tear up and work on, I dont need theirs. lol
I had a close call when my 13yr old cousin was riding my R one time. He has experience from 50cc pit bikes, to his modded KX100, 250s, and my buds CR500, so I didnt think much about him playing on it some. He went around the field near the house, then all of sudden it hangs WOT. Luckily he knew what to do and got it clutched out and shutdown before slinging him into the woods. Turns out the idle tab broke off the slide then hung beside it. Ive been a lil leery since then about who rides.

I have let several people over the years. I have told each one not to let it compression brake, or in other words coast in gear with the clutch engaged (and I explain why). At some point most everyone of them I have caught failing to heed my warning within minutes and I motion to them to kill it and get off.

Just yesterday I came home to find my sister, brother and father riding the track (tight and twisty like a gymkhana) I cut with the zero turn this past weekend. My brother was riding my father's KFX700 and my father was on my R kicking it and shaking his head. I drove over to find out it died and wouldn't start. I told him it was probably out of fuel and he proceeded to argue. I checked under the cap then put it on reserve and fired it up in 2 kicks. I reminded them both that mine is past due for a rebuild and it was off limits until I get around to it after I finish building my brother's R. I reminded them that "lean is mean" for more than one reason.

I let others ride, but I always warn them about possible kickback and not to smash thier knee or twist the ankle and them deters most of them. A few ride but thats it.

I let a few people with 2 stroke experience ride LT, I think most of them are afraid of the backwards kickin kickstarter is has hahaha. Then after I start it for them they take it pretty easy and just make a quick cruise out of it. hahaha
