Ive been reading up a little bit and see that people are putting 2000 and up cr250 cdi boxes in the trx250r. Just kind of a basic question, is why? Does it make a noticable difference and is it really worth it?

do not buy anything older than a 2001 cr ignition 00-01 are the best but the 98-99 are good second choices

I was debating on a cr250 ignition. I decided after alot of reading and talking to different people and decided to buy one and wow i was amazed how much faster the quad reved and much cleaner it ran and i am glad i bought it. Well worth the 500 bucks. I would reccomend this mod to any one with a 250r.

Actually.......the only option you would have is gonna be 50 watts.
Maybe they could custom wind one that has more juice?
Unless something has popped up recently, I believe that is the best you can hope for.

ok so from the sounds of it the ignition is a good upgrade, what exactly are the improvements it gives? and if i bought one would i be able to just bolt it right up? or what parts would i need?

I agree with the post above!!!! ^^^^^ Well worth the money!

I just found a 99 complete system off of a wrecked CR for cheap. Should I do it? Is there anything about the 99 that is going to cause any issues? I've got the 01 system on my red 310. I understand that Pre-2000 they were analog and not digital?

I believe anything above '96 is digital. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong) I've heard good things about the '99 too. I know the timing curve is not the same, but if its cheap, I say go for it.

2000 & up,,,, & son  you show nuff have molested that 250R.
Now what would Hank say, :p .

Any CR ignition system below 2000 year, will be anilog CDI just like the TRX ignition. Even though the earlier year model CR ignitions are anilog, they are still far better than dealing with the old TRX ignition.

QUOTE(ecurbd02 @ Dec 6 2010, 09:42 AM) index.php?act=findpost&pid=53678so if i got this, would it be something I can just bolt on? like without taking the whole biike apart?

Not a big deal; you will need to pull your Front & Rear Fenders, Tank and Stator Cover off to get to everything, including your wire-harness easily...

You may notice a slight increase in vibration due to increased piston acceleration & deceleration, however; it is very minimal...
