Ive been wanting to build another TRX since its been a while.. im planning on running it in a local race series CORCS or Colorado Off Road Championship Series.. real similar to gncc racing with occasional mx elements thrown in.. im really setting out to build a nice woods/trail bike and occasionally race it..
heres what im starting with basicly a bone stock 87.. it has had some motor work but unsure what exactly .. has a fmf pipe and an ims large tank.. I picked it up in Utah and immediately took it to the dunes and abused it..

Sounds like a plan, lots of potential there!

Im excited to watch you do this...
Im a three wheeler guy but for some reason I have this urge to get a TRX and try out the quad scene. It would also look good in my collection of 4 atc250rs.
Any way... have you considered going with the stock jug, with a 4mm stroke and a good flow and port job? will create more power than an 310 esr.
I've heard similar on these forums, that a good builder can damn near squeeze the same amount of power out of a well tuned stock cylinder as an aftermarket 310. I don't know if it's true or not though...?

It'd make for a fun sleeper though!!

im a big threewheeler guy myself.. I love my R's although ive had a TRX in one form or another for years... as im building this bike we actually are building my old trx with a tweeked frame that I gave to a friend so he could put his own budget quad together and ride with us.. I have tons of toys mostly red but some green as well... ive considered having the stock jug worked I know they can be made to rip.. I have a atc that is the fastest small bore 250 based motor ive ever ridden. and ive rode hundreds.. but ive always wanted the 310 just to see what I can get it to do...
I just ordered a ton more stuff today for it I should be in full swing by next week... here are some of my atc's

Now for the fun stuff.. Finished stripping the bike to bare frame.. Turns out I missed a few issues on the bike .. THE FRAME IS STRAIGHT but a little worse off than I expexlcted... No signs of cracks in the obvious stress points but I did find two issues ..
#1 and the main issue.. Lower motor mount on riders left is gone
#2 tab that holds coolant resivor is broken off luckily I have tab
good thing I'm proficient with a welder I'll weld the tab on and go to work fabricating the lower motor mount ...
DOES ANYONY HAVE SOME GOOD PICS OF ONE OFF OF AN 87??? The right tab has a slight twist I think it's the tab that's tweaked and needs to be straightened.. I can compare it to the 86 frame I have I guess.. Then I'll start installing gusset kit.. Anyone have pics of a good gusset kit installed on one of these...
Heres some eye candy for ya

On the frame I'm thinking just paint .. Considered powder but for the cost involved paint is a better option that allows me to spend money elsewhere.. Plus with paint it can easily be touched up.. And if I'm unhappy with results I'll pull it apart over next winter and powder it...
Also I didn't forget you on the lightbar.. I'm heading to the dunes in Utah on Thursday and I'll ask the man who makes em in person...
