Hey guys,been a member here for a while and can usually find the answer to my problems by just reading through the forum...Thank you by the way for all of the expertise. My question is this. I recently drug home another 250R project. Its an 87with some nice parts. It has brembo brakes gasgas front suspension ect. The piston has a small hole melted in the exhaust side. Is this typical of excessive lean condition? I would think that it would melt directly below the spark plug, anyhow it got really hot up there lol...and i dont want to duplicate the problem. It has an LRD adjustable pipe and kehin pwk. I havent really had time to open the carb and see what jets are in it or perform a leakdown test. Any thoughts???

It would be nice if I could tell with certainty why piston holes are sometimes in the middle and other times closer to the exhaust or right at the exhaust over the piston. If we remember the hottest & highest pressure portion of the piston during combustion is between the center of the piston and the exhaust, then we can assume piston holes are generated at the hottest & highest pressure point on the piston.
What causes piston holes to vary in location from center to exhaust is a combination of the hottest spot and the highest point of pressure, turbulence, unbalanced porting, head leak locations, ect…are all variables and contribute to the point over the piston that sees the highest pressure & highest temperatures.
