Hi everyone,

While prepping my GF's 250R I was noticing a few tabs and towers I was thinking about eliminating but figured I'd hit up the 250R specialists about this.

On the top frame rails are towers that stick out horizontaly with little balls at the end which rubber pieces fit on but goto nothing. The front plastics are not OEM and they've been horribly butchered so nothing touches these rubbers or even comes close to the towers so I was gonna cut em off but I dont know if doing so would be wise or if I'll need them in the future.

Also, I presume eliminating the mount for where the intake tube's reservoir would mount is common and I plan to remove that as I dont have an intake with that clear reservoir and never plan on running something so appalling but if anyone else has cleaned up a frame and knows what to get the grinder after and what not to I'd be most appreciative if you'd share those ideas with me as I'd like to clean up this frame b4 powder coating by eliminating any unneccessary, no longer to ever be used again frame features. \

What about the tabs on the rear pipe that do not connect to the engine?

Bonus Question: My GF rides this and has trouble kick starting it due to a wayyy too short of kickstart arm. Anyone have any ideas on longer arms? (What fits etc)

Thanks

The rubber keeps the frame from rubbing the gas tank. When I got my R the frame had alot of stuff trimmed off. I wish it had those tabs because the bottom of my tank is wearing. Now that I'm thinking about it. You could cut the tabs and glue rubber to the bottom of the fuel tank to keep it from rubbing. Someone trimmed the air intake baffle mount on my frame too. Thats no big deal the clamp holds it to the intake boot very well. Should be able to cut the factory kicker and weld in a piece to extend it a small amount or tell your GF to kick harder. Tough call.

I wouldn't cut the tabs off on the upper frame rails even though you aren't using them. Try to get rubber grommets on there and they will help keep your fenders from rubbing the tank as hooty stated. As for the other tabs, you can cut off what you want but if it's not in your way, you're just reducing the chance someone would want to buy it down the road. It's not like 88/89 frames are impossible to find though, or that they are worth a fortune, so that's sort of your call. I would still recommend leaving those tabs on the upper frame rail because they do help even if your plastics aren't being inserted into them like the OEM's are.

As for the kicker, a custom extention is the only thing I can think of, but that's going to look pretty bad when you put it "storage" position because it's not going to lineup with the plastic at all. Is the compression so high that she's struggling to start it?

Hello everyone, Sorry about my delay in responding. I appreciate all the responses. The tabs Im talking about are a long ways from the gas tank but I can't tell you how close they would be to a good set of fenders cuz these are butchered. SMH why someone would cut them so. Anyways, Will try to get some pics for my next response. As far as resale? We dont care. We dont ever plan to get rid of this gem and the mods would be so clean that it wouldn't be noticeable after powder coating however I do have my eye on the loops for cables, hoses etc ;)

BTW, In my post above I mentioned cutting the engine mount tabs off the rear pipe? Forget I said that. I assembled this one out of 3 other basket cases that are now gone but coulda swore one of the frames had tabs that didn't go to anything and ironically this one has a mounting location on the engine that doesnt go to anything but dont worry, Im not hacking the cases just trying to clean up the frame b4 PC'ing.

The compression issue is a lil tuff for Ann but we'll manage. I wasn't considering cut and weld. More like another arm that you guys mighta known to fit on the TRX knuckle (ie: CR250 Arm on TRX Knuckle) Also, Would be aware of length issue but that would be a trade off. (odd looking kicker but effective for a girl to whale on and "Spin" this thing)

One more thing, Does anyone know what common item works for covering the intake opening so I can powerwash the inside of the air box?

Huge Thanks Everyone!!

Take the whole air box out if you plan to power wash it, not much is gona block intake well enough to power wash it. Try some mean green or similar product with a rag if it's just grease or oil in air box instead of taking whole thing out.

I run a aluminum airbox without a lid.when we power wash the R we always pull the rear plastic and just wrap the uni-filter with a walmart bag.after we are done,i do clean the air filter but we have never gotten it wet from power washing.

Taking the air box out would be a last resort. I think taking the motor out would be easier. Hmm... I've got a surprise for yall. I found that taking a 44oz plastic fountain drink cup shoved in the intake backwards works ok. No water gets in, It's just that the cup still occupies as much space as the AF (Almost) and I was wondering if anyone has come up with any ingenious caps or covers to fit the intake. (Think peanut butter lid but be flexible enough to stretch over intake opening.)

If I think of something that works I'll let you guys in on it...

Yea, it would be cool if they came up with something. They have these for most dirtbikes but then again, their airfilter screws on in the middle so there's something to secure it and hold it in place. Definitely something to think about.

Heads up Gang!!

You guys are gonna love me...

I located an intake cap that will work beautifully for blocking the intake for washing.
http://www.caplugs.com/productdetails.aspx?id=1000004&itemno=T+SERIES

Such a bad ass I am... :D

I just got off the phone and They're shipping me one of these that will cover the intake nicely as these things even have a flange to keep it from going in too far and I know it WILL fit tightly in the intake because they're tapered with a flange on the outer edge.

Unfortunately they said they wont be able to extend this offer to everyone else so please dont call them asking. When I recieve the shipment he's sending me of various sizes I'll let you guys know the exact part number so you can source one yourself through their distributors. (Thats what he told me to tell all my friends)

If you guys would like to follow more of my musings, look me up on Google+ www.google.com/+StuartKaufman BTW that's where I share my findings... No fan of facebook here.
