my buddy has an r, and he uses R50 Klotz and i thought he was insane! he said alot of people use it and it actually runs damn good.
I thought it was weird because ive always used Spectra 31-1....
is 50-1 safe??? lol.
50:1 can be safe, but not for all oils
50:1 is no issue with the right oil. I ran plenty of MX motors for an entire season without any wear or compressions issues. 20-30 hours no sweat at 50:1. Just depends on what you want.
Burns is right, there is nothing wrong with running oil at 50:1.
With that said, what is more important is to run the oil you are gonna use at the ratio that the oil manufacturer recommends. In other words, it's not a good idea to run an oil that is recommended for 32:1 use and run it at 50:1 instead. The oil has the proper concentration for 32:1, not 50:1 so it may be too diluted at that point. If the oil manufacturer recommends it be run at 50:1, then that means it was has the proper concentrations of formula and has been optimized to run at 50:1. One additional point to note, any time you are getting leaner on an oil: fuel ratio, you better make sure you are running a high quality oil, as you are relying on the actual quality of the oil to keep your engine safe and not the sheer quantity.
