who can I get to back-cut second gear and cryo check them?
you will have to buy the gears and then send them out be back cut and cryo treated....there lots of places to get the cryoing done... i woud call the nearest heat treating place and ask them...dont pay more than about a hundred bucks for it though.

on the back cutting i can recomend two places JDI racing 541-990-6264 or asap machine 541-298-2727 ask for bob.... or i could do itfor you but im way out probably at least 30 days... these other guys do exceptional work too at a better turnaround than me right now.. dont forget to tell them piranha pete sent ya

I grabbed the clutch and then hammered it again and it didn't go nowhere. Thought the chain had come off from changing the gearing but it was on. Then seen oil going everywhere and a big hole in the side of the case. I think my 2nd gear was the next weaklink.
I read this thread last week. Then on Saturday, I thought I would be cool and start off in 2nd gear to kick everyones butt off the line. Deashavue I'm at the bottom of the hill with the motor spinning and the bike not. Time to break out the epoxy and get a set of Yucons.

I feel your pain. $300 for yukon's and $300 for a new case. I haven't split my cases yet to see what else I need.

What realy drives you nuts is the fact that it could all happen again just as fast as the first time.
I'm just hoping it was bad luck!

If either of you are interested in used cases, send me a pm. I don't have any pics at the moment and won't for a few days though. Gonna have a baby in the morn!!! but I'll check back.

Finally got a good set of cases and they are getting machined. Also got a set of yukons on the way. When I get them the whole tranny is going to w-c-r racing for cyro treatment and undercut. Hope it all works out. Got to ride it probably a whole 5 minutes without the clutch slipping, until 2nd gear blew up.

I have a totall of two racing day on stock cut tranny. The 48 lectron on alky made a HUGE diff. My bike freakin hauled for its first time out...very very pleased. Big thanks to all the guys at M&M....some people are gonna be a little mad at this bike.lol

So are you using stock gears that have been cut? Andy said you guys couldn't get the yukons to work right.

yep...no yukons....they just werent made right

I'm wandering if I should gear mine to do a holeshot in 3rd instead of 2nd.

well if you have an override it is way easier on the gears. I launched in 2nd all day long....
I'm hoping this is just bad luck for me and PC340PV. And there was another Puma, the superpuma ate 2nd also. Got the hole epoxied up and another stock tranny in. If Josh launches all day in 2nd then I believe it's just bad luck for the rest of us. I have seen these tranny's go out just because of improper shifting technique. Were gonna try for more than a half hour this weekend. I know Cory has got over 100 hours on his Puma. Most of it racing without a problem.

The second gear is just a weak gear, just like a banshee. Problem is if you gear it for a 1st gear take off, with say a 1-4 over ride, you will break first gear as well....Neil (saber racing) had some billet first gears made, i havent been able to get a hold of him tho. They are about $200 for 1 gear, but its just something you have to have if your gonna run a big motor. Im really suprised i havent broken a tranny in my 370....If you have an over ride and they are back cut, you are more likely not to break a tranny then a stocker..

I'm hoping that the yukons, cryo treatment and backcutting will hold up. I still haven't heard of anyone else riding this motor in the dirt. I would think the sand would be a little more forgiving on parts compared to dirt. Maybe not, I dont know. Still wandering if I should try and gear for a 3rd gear holeshot since I only use one gear going up the hill. I know its a banshee but check this hill out.

A billet part is machined out of a chunk of aluminum and not poured into a forging.

Got the yukons and a new second gear for the main shaft today. Boxed it up and its heading to w-c-r. Our State race is July 25 and 26. Hope I get my stuff back in time so I can have a little seat time. Need to try for a repeat 1st place from last year.

I just ain't having any luck. Got the thing all back together to get up to the line at our State race with a 14x39 gearing and it falls on its face. It took some double clutching to get it going again. Last year with a 340 I was running a 14x37 and just dumping the clutch.. Something isn't right. My buddy with an ESR 350 running 13x36 gearing is blowing me out of the water. I really need to get the packard billet fuel bowl to work with the lectron, but I just cant get it to fit. I think its running the stock bowl dry?? Sitting still if you rev it up you can see the level drop and a whole bunch of bubbles in the bowl. Any ideas??? I would of though that this motor would of ripped off the tires with this gearing.

and it should. you have it totally dialed in? also have you looked into modding the fuel delivery system so that ya get more volume to the carb itself. i've seen some need to run a fuel pump in conjunction with added flow mods. just a thought.
