I have a chance to buy a tecate 4 . Just wondering if I could part it out and get my money back. It is blown up and needs to be resleaved but it has a 330 big bore on it and fenders look good. Just looking some feed back.

Fenders are worth something ONLY if they are in NICE shape. Rear fender can still be purchased through Maier. ANY aftermarket performance parts are worth some cash especially the pipes as long as they are not FMF. If the powervalves are good in the engine they are worth money also. The rest is not worth much at all.

I just traded my t4 with Spock 330 for my R. They are only worth money in parts. If they are clean oem plastic they will sell quick. Whites are more $$$$ If it has both the power values they are worth $$$. If they are steal they are worth even more. If you slipt case and Govenor gear is in good shape $$$.
I love my r but I miss the T4 every day. Post pics I want to see it. Or email me some Rapremieresystems@icloud.com I have few people that need some parts. Or if you want to sell complete let me know.

Two words for you SCRAP IRON. Thats what its worth. If you see pics of them on line you will notice that 95% of them have the factory rear tires on them, thats because they wont run long enough to ever wear them out.

The ONLY reason that I own 2 of them is because I had one years ago and always wanted it back. Stock vs stock the tecate was faster than my r. But now that I have a 310 on the r there is no comparison. ALso the tecate is a major pain in the butt to work on compared to the r. I also worry about parts availability for it. So that is why my r is my primary rider and the tecates are just conversation pieces i guess.

A buddy of mine had a T4, I think it was an 88. He said it was a 310 & said it would smoke my R. We went to the dune's together just one time, I remember his tecate sounded pretty mean but we never got to race because he couldn't keep it running. I've heard that there really fast, especially the 86 T3. Tecate's are like the mystical white buffalo though, you never see them running around so nobody knows if they truely exist:lol:. Seriously though, they are cool looking bike's & I'd own one if the deal was right. I found this one on craigslist for $2300, no idea if that's a good deal or not. It's a nice looking quad but I wouldn't pay that much for one personally, especially when you can get a pretty nice R for that kind of scratch.

Depends on the price, if its $500 that a good deal. I would buy it and complete the re-sleeve. Test out the bike and you might actually keep it, especially since its a 330. Worst case you hate it you can sell a running bike vs. parting it out. It would be ruff to part out and break even.

You would definitly make some money parting it. I bought a bunch of misc Tecate4 parts a few years ago with the intent of building one. The guy I get them from parted it out and he said he made a couple grand and was tired of listing stuff so he sold what was left for $100. I decided to sell what I got from him to fund my R. All I had, complete rear end (nobrakes hubs or shock), complete front (no brakes or hubs), fenders, nerfs, radiator, stator, and some misc engine parts. I made almost $500

My mythical 86 Tecate. The 3 wheelers are definitely better than the 4 wheelers. I understand the T-4 was engineered with little to no input from Team Green at the time, i.e., Jimmy White, and it showed. It had the fastest stock engine but the handling sucked. If I were you I'd keep it and restore it. Sure these machines have their quirks but that is part of their charm.

I owned one!!!!!!!!!!!!! And you tell me why the rear tires are almost ALWAYS still on the things????????? I had a 3 and a 4, and I just sold the 3 for 500 bucks with brand new oem plastic, a new top end "the 5th one in 2 years" and the "3rd" bad oem stator not to mention it vibrated your teeth out, and my R "with ONLY a CT mid pipe" would beat it. I have kicked and dragged a Tecrappy more times than ALL my other bikes Ive ever owned in my whole life combined!!!!!! We have a name for ANYTHING GREEN around here but politics won't let me say the name for them on here!!

A friend of mine has an '86 T3, '87 T3 (yes a few of them are out there) and an '86 2-Cate which is a big wheel Tecate conversion. The 2-Cate and '86 T3 have Sprock 300's in them.

Yes, they are out there. And yes, they did have some issues. But if you know how to take care of them they run just fine...much like our R's!

And I could swear the Kawi's had Nikasil cylinders..... I'll have to double check with my friend on that..

The Tecates didn't have Nikasil but "electrofusion" cylinders which is an earlier type of hard coating. I don't think Nikasil even existed in the 80s. Somewhere I read electrofusion involves inserting a rod of special material in the cylinder and super heating it with electric current to the point where it explodes. It leaves a thin layer of material on the cylinder walls.
