Hi guys, Im old, and dont get on forums very much so please dont chew my rump for posting what is probably a very frequent question! I have a 330 (trx 9 porting) on the way from esr with a 4mill stroker thats going in my 87 trx. I have been trying to read up on enough posts to figure out my pipe/carb combo. I have (I think) narrowed it down to a trx 5 and a 39mm carb of some brand, any thoughts on this would help. I do ALL of my own motor building and even some porting, but Ive never dealt with the big bore set ups. Im in south west (extream south west) Ga, and my riding will be long back roads (dirt) and draggin on the roads about 10 times a day. Thanks.

Sounds to me like you have it figured out. I love my trx 5. If you're buying new carb you could consider a 40.5 keihin for a little more top end than a 38-39.

Yup 5 pipe and I'd do a 40.5 carb

Thanks for the info, I do want as much top as possible even tho I know it can be rough on the bigger bores, so the 40.5 may be what I get. Can anyone tell me why Tom at ESR refused to set my engine up for pump gas? I wanted the pg dome but he just kept saying ''you dont want that'' I live in a small town and the only ''RACE'' gas around is the 100octane from the airport at 5.60 a gallon. I plan on just milling the dome out myself to run 93, or should I just leave it alone??? And will the 100 be ok if I dont mill the head??

Milling the head will call for my compression and higher octane. You'll have to maybe add a thicker base gasket

Any idea why esr wouldnt just set it up with a pump gas dome to start with? I know its a little less power/more heat, but we cruise 80% of the time, so I figured itd be fine.

I dont know why he wouldnt sell it to you if thats what you wanted, but hes prob just trying to save you in the long run.. Pump fuel is junk and will trash your motor. It burns dirty and hot and alot of times pre detonates causing more problems to your entire motor! I originally went with a "pump" gas dome and had my motor and compression set up for it and within 25hrs of ride time on 93 oct pump mixed properly my motor was ultimatly trashed! Ended up with a burnt up reed, chewed up piston and dome which was black from all the junk in the fuel. My motor before that was a higher comp on vp 110 and after far more hrs then I had on the pump motor the dome was still smooth and clean shinny silver. I have now went back to the race fuel on my new build. the 110 runs cooler cleaner and stronger as long as your motor is properly set up for it, not to metion it smells amazing out of your exhaust!!! One last thing you might do some research on that aviation fuel before you put it in your bike, because even though it says 110 I dont think its the same as regular 110 fuel being that its made for air planes. I pay $8.50 for my vp 110 so $5.50 would be a steal in my eyes!!

What kind of riding are you doing? The TRX 5 is a great pipe. I would get a 38mm A/S for woods riding and a 40.5 for Dunes. The 38 will make more power down low. 40.5 will make more power up top.

I would go with fmf fatty with power core 2 silencer. Same exact hp as trx5 but sounds 10 times better.

Our land is flat flat, no hills/dunes, we have about 800 miles of dirt roads and the law allows us to ride wherever we want. We just cruise around then stop for a quick drag race. I used to race moto cross in my younger days, but I like 4 wheels now, and I keep them all on the ground! I dont really need any bottom end, but its nice to have.

40.5 A/S is your friend then. Dont get me wrong. The BDT 363 Sphynx will make gobs of power down low. But your carb just compliments your riding style is all.

Im running a CT mid pipe at the moment with a ported 67.5 oem cylinder, Vforce 3 reeds, 38mm carb, 4mm hot rods crank, stock airbox, and stock ignition. I weigh in at 220 and I have to say its OK for what it is. On the CR ignition set up, is it worth the money for the ridding that I do?? I dont really care about bottom end, no need for it, but I dont need lights either!

Everyone hypes that mod up. I run it on my MX bike, and a stock ignition on my XC bike. Personally i cant tell much differece. If you have the money burning a hole in your pocket buy the CR ignition. But for a weekend warrior doing trails and back roads riding, you probably wont see the benfit. My personal opinon.

If I do get it it will be the last thing I do, I think Ill be happy with the 330/stroked set up. I didnt really plan on that set up but when I inspected the stock stroke bottom end i was going to put the 330 on I discovered it needed a crank, too much play. My other engine is a 4mil so I said what the hell. I know I wont be able to resist running the big bore until the trx 5 gets here, so just how crappy is the CT mid pipe gonna be on it till the 5 gets here??? Lol!

how much play in your stock crank? Want to sell it?

Its also a short rod, its not TOO bad but I didnt want to bolt on a 1000.00 set up on it. But its an oem crank from an 86. If you still want it Id take 40.00 plus shipping.
