I know something happened with laeger recently. Some say they went out of business, others say they are moving to another place and I read that they were bought out by "sheppard's customs". What is the truth here?

Scott Taylor from Laeger told me in an email that they were being bought out... They will be back online soon selling things as usual.

They went out of business. A new company - supposedly from France is picking up the pieces.
They will be coming back and there is a good chance 250R stuff will come back into play.

The protrax parts will likely be discontinued as the cost has risen to the point where they are not profitable. However, current protrax parts can be replace through automotive stores. I am in the process of getting all the info for rebuilding.

I was at Lost Creeck Cycles today and I asked Kevin about them, he said they are done. He did have a complete t-pin rebuild kit so I bought it. ;)

How much was the rebuild kit and what did it include?

Well crap guys.... Sorry, looks like I was lied to... by the OWNER. Here is the conversation from my emails:

Rumor is you guys have closed down because of the economy. Any truth to that? Can you help with my parts needs?

Yes and no? We have been closed but we are being bought and will reopen soon. Scott A. Taylor

Okay. Is the new owner confidential? Laeger still gonna be supplying parts to us happy owners? Anyway I can get a couple small things right now? I appreciate you following up so quickly. Thank you, James Deaton

At this point we are not letting the cat out of the bag. We will continue to supply and manufacture the same quality parts.

That was back in late February.... Sigh....

Sounds like I need to be real careful with my quad.....

there was an article in dirt wheels a few months back. fred shepperd was hired by laeger i know he owns or owned bling star. Fred sheppard seemed like a knowledgeable and very helpfull when i talked to him in the early 90s. I would be upset if i hired on then the company went bankrupt. It dosent make sense that they would go out of buisness their protrax front end is unbelievable. makes me wonder if mark laeger still owns the patents on his designs.

This email is from Scott Taylor, I received it this morning....

We are in the process of moving to Vista right now. We should be up and running within 3 weeks.

Laeger will continue on. What products will continue is still up to the new owners but parts will be available and by the sounds of it, 250R and hybrid parts are of interest to the new owners.

This is word direct from THE source.

Maybe the frenchies will bring the R back to racing.... LOL....

The protrax system? If not please clarify. If it's the protrax, I'm sure if you contact Dave at JD performance he could help you out. I asked him a couple questions about it and he is very knowledgeable since apparently he helped Mark develop it or at least was a top employee in it's hayday.

if this is about the stem from other post today ..seems to me a good fabricator could build a stem for ya ..if all else fails ...

yes, it was about the pro-trak stem. I got back to the guy and informed him that the stem is the part that will make the whole thing complete, it won't work w/o it. I ordered a trade for a laeger standard stem. If this whole thing with laeger doesn't come back, we will need a source for more stems and rebuild parts, or we will have alot of junk pro-trak systems. Nothing is worse than something awesome, but you can't replacement parts for.
