I wouldn't suggest that.... local tire place here charges me $5 to dismount and mount a tire onto new wheel... can't beat that...especially when the bike shops want 30-$40!!!!

I made a ghetto home made rig that works pretty well. But I had some 8" goldspeeds on dwt beadlocks and I couldn't even get them to budge, Even tried a tire shop and they were stumped. Ended up uding a 2x6 my pickup truck and a sledge hammer to get those tires off.

Keep in mind, build the bottom piece so that the tire & rim will sit on it & have several notches or holes for fabbing something to grab the rim, hold it in place keep it from scooting out when you press down on the bead breaking handle.
The one I made, looks kinda like the Harbor Freight one. I used 1 1/4" square tubbing with a piece of 1" pipe sticking up at the bottom to go through the rim, hold the tire & rim in place.
I can break tire beads with it on atv, cars, pickups & even the big 245 X 70 X 19.5 tires on our motorhome.

Only thing about building one now, that one at Harbor Freight for 33 bucks is a deal & a whole lot less trouble.

I like that one. I might have to dig through my scrap steel and build one like that. I've used the harbor frieght one a few times. Depending on the stiffness of the sidewall and the lip of the wheel, sometimes the curved press part will slip. If you tack weld a metal cutting sawzall or a hacksaw blade to the edge it helps grip it better.

I bought a bead breaker from harbor freight for 32$ and it works great. dunno if there's any stores near you but here's the link Bead Breaker
i got one from JC Whitney years ago, looks very similiar to that one, same colors. works great

Technique helps a lot also. I give the bead a couple rounds before I try to actual break the bead. I get a little at a time. I also use soapy water. The tire shop is a good idea if you don't do this much, but Iv'e used mine a lot.

I have this one and it works pretty good. Portable Tire Changer I have only used for ATV tires and some were easier than others. Some tires the wedge part would roll off the bead and slid down the side wall. Then a friend told me to put the valve stem back in after the air presure is let out and this worked as the tire would not collapse and then it popped the bead.

JL ATV products makes a good bead breaker. It is the hand held kind and very sturdy. There is only one bead I wasn't able to break with it. The tire had been on there a good 25 years so I had to take it to a shop with a hydraulic breaker.
