how does everyone do against the new 4 jokes????

that pretty much sums up that argument. each have their pros and cons. a good rider who knows how to ride a 2-stroke 250 doesnt have a problem being competitive. their power to weight ration is essentially identical. the traction edge goes to the 4-stroke, the handling edge goes to the 250R. in the end its all rider.

ive owned both..... It all comes down to rider. Anyone can make anything go fast depending on skill level. I my self am faster on a fully aftermarket R, than a stock 450r...but if both equally modded, then i am just about the same on each. They both have advantages in diff areas. 4-stroke - easy to ride, alot of torque etc. 2-stroke... takes more skill to go fast on them, but if you can do it....they weigh less and are less tiring to throw around in whooped out conditons.

Are we talking about drag racing or riding?

I love riding my standard travel R for mx, but I think its mostly because I dont know how to ride 4 strokes to their maximum potential. I am going to include a pic of a friend's LT yfz that he lets me ride almost every time we got ot the track. The LT suspension makes it much smoother to ride around the track, and the smoothness (is that a word?) and torque of the motor makes it very easy to ride, especially on tight tracks. I wouldn't dare jump someone elses bike, especially one that nice, on anything real big so I dont know how it would handle huge jumps, but Im sure it would be great. I feel like my 310 cylinder puts out more power than a piped and mildly built yfz and thats one of the reasons I like my R so much. I rode a banshee for mx before I bought my R, and IMO these two quads are the best out there for coming out of a corner and clearing big jumps. The acceleration is amazing from a big bore 2 stroke.
I can ride this yfz all day at 100% and not get tired, but because my suspension is set up to soak up landings from coming down from 30ft in the air I get worn out in other areas of the track on my R.

dang that lt yfz looks nice.

in a 500' drag on hard packed dirt i am about 1-2 lenths behind a stock 450r. the only mod on my 250r is a fmf sst pipe. i think it would be even if i had some new clutch fibers and steels i can feel it slip a little once i get to 5th gear. also he had the stock dunlop radials with 80% tread left and i have 50% on mud sharks which dont hook at all on hard packed surfaces.

I only race beginner class, but I hold my own just fine. I don't feel at a disadvantage at all runing with the 450s. I'm usually 2nd or 3rd off the gate into the first corner too. It's after that when the OFS (old, fat, slow) syndrome starts taking it's toll. LOL!!!

Since this is in the drag section im going to assume your refering to drag racing,

450's are fast stock. and a good pipe helps alot

to get a 250r to that point takes more work. I think with the basic mods to a R, (good porting, carb good pipe and reed cage) would beat most normally built 450's (pipe and cam)

The 4 strokes are much easyer to find power and be fast on them.

my buddie has a 04 450 with a pipe and jetted with razor 2 on it i have a 86r thats bored 10 from stock boysen reeds and fmf fatty running maxis sur trax that came off my recon lol (ya there a bit big) everytime we run im about half a quad behind pretty good in my opinion all my shocks are stock yet from 86 never been rebuilt so that hurts a bit but ill get him next year im doing a 295 big bore hell never see it coming

at my local 1/8th mile strip a stock 450r was running flat 10 second passes, one with a pipe and cams was running around 9.4-9.5. my 250 has been ported (by me) trx9 pipe and bone stock otherwise, even down to the 34mm carb and thick paper head gasket and i ran a 9.8. i don't think many people go farther then cams on 4 jokes, and im sure with a bigger carb, a little more compression and a bit more port work (which could be attained for under $100) i should be faster then a camed 450, 4 strokes are majorly expensive to make fast and less reliable then a comparable 250 imo. btw i used to have a kfx400 with a maxpower 455 jug and it only ran a 10.2, kind of a 450 lol.

I have an 88R, esr 330, 38mm a/s, LRD pipe etc. and I beat my buddy's 05 478 yfz (with 13.5:1, hotcams, full exhaust and +4 swinger) by about 2 bike lengths. My other friend has a 540 KTM quad with 13.5:1, fully built head and HMFexhaust and we're about even. Both their bikes have big bucks into them (2500$+) to beat my realtively cheap built 330 which was running way rich at the time

Probably not what your looking for, but my Puma powered 250r tike was beating a 550'ish Redline racing built YFZ by 2 to 3 bike length's couple months back. Ran him 3 times, the closest he got was 2 to 3 bike's. When I launched hard and did not lift, it was pretty ugly for him. It was a drag YFZ in a stock chassis. I believe it even had an air shifter if I remember right.

This was the first weekend I had my R too (came to the light and sold my built raptor)
and was really only on a "try it out' run. The thing was running like crap too and i handed them their asses. it sure is fun smoking 10k plus 4 strokes with a 20 y/o bike!

right there with ya. my 88 with the 310, 39 carb running 112 pulls in every gear on a 450 with hot cam stage 2, pipe runnig the same 112. but its really a case by case situation. i have been blown by like i was parked by 450s but done the same to big bore 450's.

heres some glamis action from last saturday. beautiful day, terrible starts, choppy ass sand. enjoy

Nice video. Man, you are smoking those guys, even when they get a better start. What gearing and paddles are you running?

haha thanks guys. yeah my starts are really bad. i start in 2nd since 1st is useless. only gets me about 20ft. if i time it right 2nd shoots me out ahead real quick. im running skat trak 8 paddle haulers. i think im running a 13 tooth front and a 36 tooth rear. i must admit i did get worked effin hard by a 400ex built to the hilt. besides that, nothing close in power really touched me besides the only other R i saw running the esr 330 bolt on. piped and race gas head, he was pullin away from me in 5th on the flats. i need a way better pipe, race gas head, re jet and im done with motor mods. now if only i can do something with this 23 year old suspension.....
