Took a day trip to pismo today. Weather was real nice in the morning. I landed a jump, heard a funny noise, shifted down and the tranny didn't feel right. Now its hard to get it to shift, it won't go into first gear. Second gear is good and third gear makes a bunch of noise. I rode it all the way back to the trailer in second gear. I probably broke 3rd gear and maybe bent some forks or something. What do you guys think the damages are? If you are having trouble finding neutral, is that any indication of a problem in the tranny. It was hard to find neutral before the tranny broke.

When an R transmission wont shift & it had been doing ok before, more than likely you have broken pieces in there getting in between gears & not letting them move.
Have seen a pieces of gear get over into the clutch cover side, get down under the shift drum lever & stop it from shifting to the next gear. Thats the best that could have happened & maybe the least damage, but still a broken gear.

I got it all apart. I tore up 6 gears and the shaft that has 1st gear on it. I guess I should not have rode it in. The peices of broken gears tore up the rest of them.

I ordered $600 worth of tranny parts today. Hopefully it will last another 20 years.

It wasn't a big jump at all and I was barely on the throttle when I landed. It didn't put a hole in the cases, but I'm sure it tore up the inside a bit. A guy from ESR is fixing it on the side for me so I haven't seen the cases or parts yet.
