I was under the impression that all the 250r's were the same weight, about 328lbs. But I was looking through wikipedia and there was a spec sheet that said the 86-87 r's weighed 357lbs or something and then the weight went down to 328 in 88. Is that true? I know wiki isn't all actual facts, thats why I figured I'd ask.

the 86 was the heaviest frame. there was the swingarm change in 88. im sure the 88 headlight assembly weighed less, no metal bar brackets. i think the 86 has some steel foot guards. im sure there were a couple other small differences, that im not remembering. i think that could all add up to 25-ish pounds, so the wiki probably is pretty accurate.

the 86 frame was built a little tougher and had more square tubing compared to lighter round tubing than the later years.

The 250R NEVER had round tubing from Honda.

Honda made an effort to reduce unsprung weight on the '88 model. Therefore most of the changes were in the suspension department. Changes to the headlight mount and other small revisions certainly didn't hurt, but the big weight savings were in the suspension. The new front hubs used a different casting which removed the reinforcing "ring" from the hub, the revised front rotors were three-bolt instead of the old four-bolt design, but most of the weight savings were in the swingarm...the difference in weight from chromoly steel to aluminum is huge. I don't believe that the '89 model received any revisions...it was simply a copy of the '88. But I could be seriously misinformed.
