Yep, the new '08 polaris mxr450. All I can say is WOW! Polaris has actually made something worth putting money into. I have rode all the 450's excluding the ds and kx but from comparing the MXR to all the others, there isnt any comparison. Bone stock this quad is amazing. Comes with Maxxis RzR MX's and aluminum wheels all the way around. Comes with fox shocks and many other goodies such as a hydrolic clutch. The thing I loved about this quad is that the acceleration on it was amazing. Has much more pull than the other 450's. The top end could use a little help but none-the-less, it was absolutely amazing. I am going back to the dealer tomarrow to get a little more information about it. Honestly considering getting this as an '08 race bike. Maybe post some pictures on the site through the build? Idk what do you guys think? Go with the new MXR or stick with one of the older quads?

I would say just go with a KTM if you want a ktm 450 engine, but the Polaris is quite a bit cheaper. Is it wide enough for mx or the racing that you are doing?

No it doesnt have independent rear suspension and I made sure of that. As for the weight, it weighs about 10 mor pounds that the YFZ does. Not all that big of a deal but it is something. The thing is that I could either drop $7100 on this beast or go up on a deal with a stock YFZ450SE for 3200. I really need some advice from you guys as to which route i should go..

Well think about this. How serious are you about MX? For 7100, you can EASILY find a used yfz or 450r with a built motor and long travel suspension. Fox shocks are awesome, but long travel suspension is better. Personally, I will never buy another stock quad, it just cost too much to build them, especially when you can find a mx ready long travel 450 for around 5k. My brother just bought a stock 04 yfz450 for 2800. Ive ridden alot of 450s and this is like all the others, it has decent power for a stock quad and decent suspension, but its no where close to satisfying my riding needs like my 310R with PEP suspenison. But then again, $3900 is a big chunk of change your saving.
It all comes down to what kind of riding you do, and how serious you are about it.

Only reason to buy new, is if you don't like wrenching on stuff or the quad just came out. These new 4 strokes don't last like the oldies. If you buy one used, plan on having to do some work to it at some point. Maybe sooner than you hoped. I had a z400 jump timing and eat the head and valve train up. Ouch on the pocket book. Oh yeah, and how do KTM parts compare to Japanese parts on price?

if you like it buy it, on paper its a better chassis than the other 450's chromoly narrow frame and all. i don't think ive heard anything bad about it. KTM makes excellent motors, you really cant go wrong there. but $7100 is a huge chunk of change. sweet merciful crap thats a big chunk of change for a stock quad. however as said buying a used 450 is a little like getting handed a grenade that has the pin pulled. you really dont know when it'll go boom. if you dont feel like dealing with that youll have to go new. also consider how close and how good your local dealers are. buy a brand that you can get easy service for.

If you go with a 450, I highly reccomend you look into the 08 LTR450. IT is way better than past years. I havnt ridden that polaris yet, but i may look into testing one soon. I dont think ill ever own one though. I have raced mine stock with a pipe and diff tires...and won on it, its a good quad. It'll never be a built R, but for a production quad..u can go out and race with stock a-arms and axle (already 50'' wide)

I WOULD NEVER EVER IN MY LIFE AGAIN OWN A SUCKZUKI! they are pieces of shit! i have hd the ole lt500's etc etc etc.......we had one in our group and blew up 2 trannys in a stock 450.....we had KENZ cycle tech do a head, big cams, etc etc to one, and still couldnt keep up with our yfz's and 700 raptors.

I've been eyeing up that 450MXR as well. I came off a Predator, which I liked, so I've got kind of a soft spot for the Polaris sport quads. I think the MXR is about middle of the pack as far as the weight. Power is...forget it. It's a KTM man, is excellent. And I'll take the stock suspension of the MXR over all the others any day...the Fox Podiums Xs are very nice. A ZPS spring upgrade and a re-valve and you are miles ahead of anything you can do to the other stockers for 1/3 the price of new shocks. For full MX width you'll still needs a-arms, but the axle has a lifetime warranty and is damn near bulletproof. Get a set of extended hubs that bring the rear +1.5 wider and you're set.

(as you can tell...i've given this some thought. :) )

yes but there's one thing that i think of when polaris is mentioned... 19 different types of fasteners holding it together. ease of maintenance is a huge factor when considering a new machine(at least for me). even in the new atvsport allan knowles mentions the stupid fasteners polaris uses and how he had to put a nut behind some of them cause they strip easily. everybody has been b!tching about this since the predator came out and polaris always says they're gonna fix it but they never do...

You guys are right about the fasteners. I haven't worked on one, but it would be annoying to have metric on the engine and standard on the chassis. You would think they would have made it all metric by now.
