Hello,

I use a 1986 250r in Northern Alberta and it runs great. The only problem I have is starting it. I am wondering if anyone knows any way to keep it warm for cold starts. I have an electric oil pan/block heater, but don't know where I can put it. Thanks for any advice. Then outside temperatures here are -20 to -40 degrees in the winter.

Thanks

i guess i dont know what the oil heater looks like. i assume you need a way to heat it at a lake for ice racing? could you use a radiant propane heater? how many kicks does it take to start? your jetting could be off slightly.

why would you want to be outside when its -20 to -40 I wouldnt even look outside if it was that cold
I wish I could avoid going outside in these temps, but believe it or not this is how I get to work and back! And it's actually alot of fun with the snow drifts and ice on the roads. Anyways, what I am looking for is a way to heat it while it sits in my unheated garage over night (ie plug it in when I get home and unplug it in the morning like I do with my car). I am open to any suggestions!

heating blanket or a heating pad is probably your best bet

You could set up a small electric heat on a timer so it come on a hour before you leave. If you don't have a full body skid plate aim it up at the bottom of the motor and radiator.

+1 a small electric heater or whatever you have pointed up at the motor should help. I used to aim the kerosene turbo heater at an xr600 i used to have that was a bear to start when freezing out. Worked great.

I love riding in the snow but -40 Damn you have my sympathy lol. Theres a race coming up this weekend ive been wanting to do but now having second thoughts since forcast says high of 12* I wont be able to pull the clutch after one lap ;(

i like the idea of putting a heater on a timer so that it comes on and have things warmed up by the time you get ready to leave for work.

wont be fun if all the cold stuff blocks the radiator or freezes the coolant ....it'll be walk home & try to avoid frostbite....& rebuild time
