Good luck with the build!

Just curious, did you get the standard BVC gusset kit or the expanded kit with the front motor mounts? If the kit with the front motor mounts, I’m curious how it works out for you. I’ve been considering them for a new 86 frame build.

Ima try to give them a call later maybe they can get me some faster than 3 months. How’s there quality? Have you ran them?
I just ordered a set of their +2/+1 MGC LT arms a couple weeks ago. They quoted me 8-10 weeks, but thought it would be sooner. That said, I can’t speak to the quality or give a ride report yet. However, Debbie was great to deal with on the phone, answering all of my questions and helping me with my selections. Also, Dave, who builds the arms, came from Laeger, so I don’t expect there to be any issues.

They build to order and can customize as you need - +0 to +3 wide, +0 or +1 forward, long or standard travel, spindle setup, and max ground clearance.

One downside is they currently only offer black PC and they don’t have the needle bearing upgrade due to supply issues. I went with bare to PC myself.

Funny timing - Debbie just called to take the balance of the payment and let me know that the arms are shipping next week. It’ll only be 4 weeks total for my order.

Anybody have recommendations on stem height and bar set up? I’m 6’2” also will be running a desert tank since most of my desert trail rides I do are 30-90 miles long
I’d recommend Precision bar clamps or Flexx bars - they make a huge difference. They also add some height to your setup. For example, I have the Precision bar clamps and they add ~1/2” in additional height. There’s also the Urmosi SBC clamps that were recently released.

To clear a desert tank alone, you’ll likely need a +1/+1 stem at a minimum. A lot of people will run +2/+1 to clear and also for their height.

I’m 6’1” and have an IMS 4 gal tank with a +1/+1 stem and Precision clamps. It clears my tank just fine and the extra height (~1-1/2” total) feels very comfortable to me.

The airbox lid you have is made by Shaun McKee. It’s a great piece. I have the black on black version. I know he had a large batch made up a while back, but I’m not sure if he has any left or is planning on doing another round.

As for the linkage guard, I don’t think I’ve ever seen one for the 250R.

Cool man thanks. So I’d pretty much be stuck on a full swing arm skid. Any recommendations on a good one? Thought of making one but I don’t have a tig welder
Unfortunately, yes.

The best, IMO, would be a skid from Dan at Pro-tect Fabrications - 317-467-1701. However, I’m unsure if he’s still making them anymore. Outside of that, XFR, Moose, etc. are available last I checked on eBay and other retailers.

What year frame and swingarm are you running? If OEM, I have a couple variants of the XFR skid that I’d sell. I bought them for an LSR swingarm that I didn’t end up using because they didn’t fit right. I would assume they’d fit the OEM swingarm just fine.

Note that you’re not going to be able to use a skid plate with the BVC chain/sprocket guard, at least not without modification. An alternative to the skid is to add a Hess brake rotor guard in combination with your BVC guard. The Hess unit is a really nice piece, and the two together would provide great protection. This still leaves your linkgage exposed, though.

I ordered my Zeel this week; should be here by the weekend.

Just curious, did it come with additional instructions on how to install? Specially, install instructions for Map 1 vs Map 2?

No that’s one complaint I have. I was reading tho you plug and play like you would with stock ignition and that’s the factory map then something about disconnecting a wire for map 2 but I’m not sure. Also wth are the GPO wires for??
I asked Weston on his FB post. He said that the Zeel’s default is Map 1 (stock). To get to Map 2 (01 CR250) you need to run a switch by wiring the green stripe wire to the ground.

I have no idea about the GPO wires…

Mine should be here tomorrow, so I hope to have a better understanding once I have it in my hands.

That’s a bummer on the air leak. It’s good that you caught now, though.

Yes, looking good!

I cleaned and reused my OEM hose, too. If you need one, there are some on eBay.

Alternatively, there are fancy billet reservoirs that replace the hose and plastic reservoir altogether if that’s something you’re into.

I’d imagine if you found the correct ID braided hose it would work just fine too, but it wouldn't have the the factory bend/shape.

It’s really coming together! And you’re getting so close😊

The exhaust fitment can be a pain, but usually not that bad. Using the exhaust hangers in different orientations with the addition of spacers/washers as needed usually does the trick. It’s common for those aftermarket coolant hoses to be too long, especially the one from the case to the cylinder. You may have to cut some off from either or both ends of the hose to get it so it doesn’t touch the pipe.

I’ve never had any issues with the Motion Pro cables. Maybe try lubing it?

Just curious, any word from Motowoz on your shocks? My rear is supposedly going to ship today… 5 months later.

Like 1 inch so a reed spacer wouldn’t even help much
Ah, bummer. A reed spacer is what I was thinking, but that’s a pretty big gap. There’s not a lot of great options aside from figuring out some sort of custom setup/modifications to make what you have work, unfortunately.

Very nice! It looks like it will definitely work. I’m curious to see how you end up making the splash shield. You’ll also want to add some way to mount/secure the intake to the frame.

Your custom airbox is coming together nicely! I wish I had the equipment and skills for metal fabrication like you have. It looks like it’ll definitely work and help as a splash guard, but it all depends on how much mud/water you’ll see riding. I’d think boxing in the end would further help protect the filter and I imagine add a little rigidity to the overall box, too. I’d recommend adding an Outerwear to the filter, no matter what your final design ends up being. There are Outerwears available that use a water repellent material as well.
