You could try removing some knobs from your turf tamers to give you more open spacing. You could experiment with tire pressures as well.

Is your swingarm 86/87 length? If so, no matter what tire you put on its not going to hook. Try an 88/89 length or even shorter. I went from the 86, to the 88/89 length on my MX R and the difference was night and day. It could even be an inch shorter and I wouldnt mind.

Klaws seem to work pretty good for me. Run em one way for loose tracks, flip em for hard pack.

I wondered about the klaws. Also, I just bout a 450r swinger for 11 bucks on ebay. I'm going to experiment with it and see what happens. I know it fits, but I don't know how it will ride. How do you cut the knobs off of the tamers? Do you guys know of a good pattern?

If you have any old magazines, you can see what the pros used to do. There was a few different patterns. I think 312R1 runs tamers. You might ask him.

I'm putting this up for the next sorry sap like me that can't find any info on grooving turf tamer tread. I used a pair of nippers to cut off the knobs, and I played with paint on the computer to come up with a pattern.

I'm gonna try Klaws once I wear these out.

That looks about like what I've seen in the mags.

Ive got a couple sets of grooved turf tamers I use for practice. I use holeshot mxr6's for racing though. Can get a pic of how the tamers are grooved if you want.
I have the tamers and Klaws for the R. The Klaws seem to be alot better with cornering than the tamers, but almost everyone says the tamers need to be groved to work well.

Might could check out the Duro line of tires.
They are on a roll right now trying out new designs & rubber compounds for MX & XC.
My soninlaw is testing for them & they have one tire looks like a 18X950X8 hole shot with the softest rubber I've ever touched on a knob tire.
Call Duro & tell them the Creech boy said to, cant never tell might get a deal.
