I recently picked up a set of plastics and have been unable to find a picture of a bike with them on they look like this

Those are old school style. They haven't made them for quite a while. They have a specific name and if someone else can chime in with that name, it might be easier to find pics.

A friend had a set of these on his 88 back around 1990. Sadly his were pink but his R was fast so it embarrassed alot of people, including whoever was riding it.lol... I have the low profile rears in white that I got in a parts lot. There still undrilled & never mounted.

I just got these up in a parts lot to , they are brand new in the package , I just have never seen them before are yours low profile rears the same as the ones that are pictured in the post above ?

Yep same one's only white. The tops of the fenders are basically even with the bottom of the seat pan.. Not my favorite look which is why I never used the one's I have.

Those were supposed to be better for people who really moved their butts around like they were on a trike. I don't know if it really helped. I never had them.

There generally for the flat track guys I believe & your right about them being lower in an attempt to allow the rider to move around more & tuck in tighter.
