I just bought a 86' R and the carb leaks gas out the overflow. I checked the float level and adjusted it to specs and it still leaks.

Maybe the cause is the needle and seat?

check the rubber tip on the float needle for damage and replace it if there is. there is also a chance that the seat has a film from old gas. you'll need to clean it if there is.

is there any signs of trash in the bottom of the carb when you last had it apart?

I just replaced the needle valve with a oem honda one and the carb is spotless. The float level is set to the factory specs of 16mm and it still leaks out the overflow.

Any ideas?

what does the brass seat look like. needs to be shiney. if not, take and break off a small peice of steel wool and roll it into a ball just large enough to insert it and then take a phillips head screwdriver that has the same dia. as the needle and polish it up a bit.

if this doesnt do the trick. there is a possibility that the float isnt good but, i've rarely seen a bad one.

Ttake the float out and put it in water and see if it fills with water.
