I would go with the 87, but you need to evaluate what you want out of the quad and how much you will be spending on it. It may be better to save the extra $500 and go with the 86 and then spend the $500 on mods. Check over each frame real well. Make sure there aren't too many cracks or repairs.

well i made an offer on the 86' if he bites thats my route. i really want the 87 but rite now money is tite. id rather have the long rod. with the 86 id have to lose 10 pounds to benifit the shocks, wich i could stand to loose . the 87 comes with a crap load of stuff that i really to be honest dont want to have to store. i have a 250x/350x hybrid completly tore down. im getting ready to start building a bigger oven to be able to powder frames. now i plan on running a few cra harescrambles this year on both bikes. the 350x is currently being rebuilt from ground up. i really want the r because im sick of being dusted in WO feilds by 450s, blah they make me sick. id rather be able to stay with them rather then trying to reel them in in the woods.

if i get the 86 its getting an 88 style graphic and a black 88 style hood and light and a grave motorsports cover and the frame would be powderd jet black. arms and swingers would be done in red.

i would love to get the 87 and if he would take 2500 i would go get it this weekend. the guy is super nice and very informative. i spent 45 minutes with him on the phone today he told me everything he done to it over the past years. he is selling it and his griz 660 to get a rhino.

one other question: have any of you tried blue marbel? input appreciated

Ya it all depends on what you plan on doing with the quad. They both have advantages.. Were are you located? That effects the price some. Sorry never heard of blue marble.

as far northwest as you can be in pa with out crossing into ohio. i live a mile from lake erie and a mile from the ohio line. i plan on racing harescrambles. i have found a few r's that have shaved fenders and extended a-arms. there is a stock yfz about 25 miles from me for 2800 but i dont feel like dishing out $1000 every time it needs rebuilt. eventually i want a esr310PV and duncan has +1 arms pretty cheap.

blue marbel is a 2 cycle oil i have read good things about.

oh i offered the guy with the red one 1800. he said he would do 2200 so i counter offered 2000. see what happens i guess.

I'd wait a bit, then offer the guy $2800 for the 87. The extra money is well spent on OEM fenders
the oversize tank and the headlight and complete rebuild.

Overall, you'd save a ton of money by saving up an buying something built.

honestly they are set up how i would want minus a 310pv. just cosmetics. im using them for harescrambles. the one in massilion is pretty nice. ive been talking to pappy on exriders about an r he has had for a few years its complete and needs a new frame for 1300. i think eventually i will see one and know i gotta have it.

the 87 sounded like it was going to be but then i saw pics. if he would come down to 2500 i would buy it no prob. just because he says there is only 10-15 hours on the engine how do i know that? if it was cleaner i would give him every bit of 3 grand.

i also went and looked at an 86 a few weeks ago it was allright except the plastics are faded, worn out shocks, and most the bearings needed replaced. it ran great started on 3rd kick and it was 28 degrees out, hell it idled for 10 minutes without stalling.

your in a great location to find some killer deals on quads, i would hold out. PA, OH, and NY have a lot of quads, and your within a few hours of drive. i wouldnt be too turned off about buying a quad with longer a-arms either. it would be pretty easy to sell the MX suspension on ebay and buy XC parts. you still have a few months of winter to play with.

I agree, go for something a little more money and it'll be better. This one or the one with Hipers seems like a good deal. I think I called him and I'm betting he'll get down to $4000. I'd get something with shocks for sure - stock shocks suck and will wear you out riding. If you spend $2000-2500 on one without shocks then have to buy them, you are looking at another $800 used (F&R) plus rebuilt/revalve. I don't think I'd ever buy a stock shocked machine anymore for more than $1800.

The 2 in Lapeer,MI are not what you are looking for. Those are going to be really nice nearly 100% stock and I know the guy. He's a super 250R fan but he buys and sells, so he doesn't move really. Although if you look, he has a 87 for $1785.

yea baldwin is 15-20 minutes from me. jb racing is less then mile. i live right on a rail road crossing and the next crossing is were jb racing is ( it was the former home of matt bartosek) then the crossing after that is were angela moore grew up at.

well i talked some more to the guy with the red one and he does have extras that go with it im waiting to here what tho.. and the more my tax forms roll in it looks more promising to bump me up to the 4k range :) .

we will see though. oh is there anyone relativley close to me that would be willing to look at some of theese bikes? this would be my first r and dont really know a whole lot about them.

im really kicking my self in the ass tho when i was 16 i bought a 400 at fischer cycle sales and he had a stock 89r in there and i wanted to get that instead and my dad wouldnt let me "because 2 strokes are harder to maintain" the bad part was it was 1500 less then the new 400. bud had tried to tell my dad i would of had more fun on it.

yea i'd either get something like the second one with the hipers or the one with the leager chassis, if you can get the guy with the leager to go to 4000 thats a killer deal. AVOID STOCK especially if your racing xc stock parts suck. i race xc and last season my r broke and i had to ride my stock 400 other than works fronts a damper and holeshot gncc's on champion beadlocks. it was the worst thing ever. i missed my r so much i just bought another one so if it breaks i have a back up. anyway if you can afford it get one thats already built that some poor dude thats being forced by his wife to sell for pennies on the doller for what he invested.
