Well the time has come to trash the Sparks MX pipe. The flange on the head pipe that the expansion chamber slides into has rusted away.Patched it up with aluminum tape and silicon for the races last night and all was well except for running thru a Raptor that had looped out in a corner. The impact banged the pipe and a large pice broke out.Anyway,I had talked to Sparks a few days ago about buying a new pipe, just hoping they might know someone with one laying around. They did tell me they plan to make a run of pipes this fall, but that isnt an option now.I have also talked to ESR about their pipes, and found out the 6 has been replaced with the new TRX7 and also they have a newer 5R.Im leaning towards the 7 since I have the 7 porting and still race MX.Anyone have any experience with the 7 or the 5R?LRD is way out of the budget, btw

I have a TRX7R sitting in my garage. Haven't had a chance to try it yet. Eddie highly recommended the centermount TRX7R, but we like to run the airbox. He said the centermount would have better top end.

Im not big on not running without the airbox, especially on the local track.I ordered the 7 today,so hopefully it will be here this weekend.

Sweet man. Let us know how it compares to your old Sparks MX.

Yea, definitely let us know how the TRX7 works out for you. I'm currently in the process of an MX build and will eventually be building a new engine and getting a new pipe.

Got the pipe today. It looks great, but wasnt made for a LSR frame. The mount on the pipe is setup for a stock frame(?).The LSR frame has the hole to bolt to forwatd of the mount by about 3".I already had a new ESR silencer that was bought about 2yrs ago.I dont know if they have changed anything on them, but the singer seems a little short.I did manage to mount it and fire the engine up.Sounded great and no obvious leaks.I guess I will have to fab a pipe to frame mount extension, hopefully that will also help the pipe/silencer joint fit.

I had to make a mount for my dad's arens frame too. I just used the stock rubber mount and an 1/8" x 1" piece of aluminum with two holes in it. Worked out good.

The trx7 looks basically the same as the trx5 and the trx6. Closer to the 6. They use a new nameplate now that resembles their 4 poke pipes. Its black and red. You can see the trx5 with the new nameplate at esr250.com

Yep, it's a stainless piece riveted on instead of the welded stamped version. Looks much better IMO. Then again, my R is red and black.

Not yet, radiator was seeping.I noticed it while installing the pipe.Got it repaired yesterday, but the wife had surgery today so Ive been at the hospital since 5 am.Hopefully Ill get time to get it together this weekend.I did start it before removing the rad and it actually sounded as good or better than the Sparks. They made some mods to both pipes to increase the power range, with emphasis on getting more bottom end on the 5,now the 5R and the 7R supposedly will rev out better than the old 6.I will say other than the mounting tabs not lining up,the pipe itself fits better than the Sparks.More clearance at the lower rad hose and at the water pump cover.

Yeah, the old chrome sucked. I had my trx5 redone and my dads trx6 looks like crap.

I got to go to the track last night and give it a try and I can honestly say I wasnt disappointed.Ran as well as the Sparks ever did.Pulled great off the bottom and seemed to rev out as far as it ever has.Actually may have reved a little further than the old pipe.I need to tune in my jetting ,a little fat since the temp at race time was almost 90.i still want to get it in an open space and see what it does.

Thanks for your comments on the pipe. I was curious to hear your thoughts since many people talk like the sparks mx is the best pipe ever made. Any difference in the smoothness of the power or the hit?

The hit was maybe a tad smoother. As I mentioned,it seemed liked it rev'ed a little further on the straight aways but still pulled off the corners like it always has.I have an ESR 310 on its 1st bore with V-Force2 cage, and 38mm A/S carb.Im no human dyno, but I really couldnt tell a dimes difference between the 2.Maybe after I get some more time on it,I will be able to notice the little differences more.
