I was reading in a post about using a cr head on a trx. i would like to know which year to use and also if any mods are needed to make it work
89 model & yes the two stud holes at the front will need elongating so the TRX cylinder studs will go through.
Those two head studs on the CR cylinder are wider apart because of the P/V system.

What's the advantage of the CR head? Do you run the TRX gasket?
Yes, you would want to use the TRX gasket because thats what fits the cylinder. You could however use the CR gasket if you wanted to.

The CR head, it is a thicker build & will hold more coolant than a TRX head + it being thicker, its more heavier where the studs go through & will hold its shape better. The plug hole is straight in as well, not at an angle like the TRX head which give a better burn pattern & is easier to do machining on.
I use the CR heads when building a 270 or a stock cylinder stroker build.
