So I'm still trying to properly nail down my jetting, but I'm wondering if maybe I'm having some grounding out, or electrical issue .
86 250R, stock motor
CT Pipe and silencer
Vforce block and reeds
35mm PWK carb
155 main , 48 pilot, 3rd clip on needle, DEK needle.
Air screw set to spec
Pump gas 97 octane with Klotz R50 @ 32:1
Located in NJ 250 ft/ above sea level

Testing the coil, primary was @ .4 ohms and secondary was 7.51.

Revs hang up high a bit and pop, which is why im sure its running lean, but im still getting quite a bit of carbon coming out of the silencer and its smoking pretty good.

I went back over all my grounds, and made sure there was no powder on spots where it grounds to frame and my kill switch isnt grounding out.

I'm just a little confused on it running lean with all that smoke and spooge building up at the end up silencer.

Any help would be appreciated.

I ran Torco GP-7 in my R for over 20 years, that stuff is about as thick as vegetable oil so I ran it at 36:1. I recently switched to Klotz R-50 though & that stuff is more like honey so I run it at 40:1. On my R I was running GP-7 in, the turndown was always dry & ash color even with a 180 main in a 38as on an unported oem cylinder. The R I rebuilt an engine in & broke in using Klotz R-50 has oily residue in the turndown with a 175 main in a 39pwk & clean-up ported oem cylinder. A pre-mix flash point chart was posted on .org that showed R-50 as having one of the highest at over 500 degrees. I think The GP-7 wasn't much over 200 degrees

Hmm… so I may mix it at 36 or even 40 like you mention. I’ll be honest, I never even thought that would/could be the issue. Glad to know.
If it doesn’t change with the ration I will try another oil and see if that changes anything.
Thanks

Sounds lean. Do a leak down to make sure your smoke isent from trans oil. I had the same issue when I first got mine turns out my cases were damaged allowing trans oil to get into combustion.

Yeah thats what I’m going to next after I change oil. I think it’s the mixture though, the high flashpoint and not really having a chance to get it hot and rev it out good.
Drained all the Klotz R50 mixture and burned off the small amount left. Cleaned the tank and prepping new pre mix with different jetting.
