I raced motocross around Kansas about 5 years ago on my Polaris Predator. That machine is long gone and has been replaced by my 250r. I love this machine, and have no desire to get rid of it. That is where my question starts. I want to start racing again, but is my R good enough to keep up with the 450's. I want to loose because I suck, not because my machine is under powered. :D

It would be a lot cheaper to keep your R and put a little money into it. If you get it set up right, you can keep up.

I understand the suspension. I don't know what else to do with the motor. I've bored it 80 over, put a reed spacer on, installed a 38mm air stryker, and esr trx5 centermount exhaust. Do you have any other engine mods for me?

ditch the reed spacer, get a rad valve, mill the head, send the cylinder to C-Leigh for low-mid range porting, trade the pipe for a sparks mx or PT 89 race, go with a uni filter and stock air box with the lid off

They keep up just fine...I do it all the time. ;) When I loose (and that happens a bit), it's because of me, not the bike.

I too came off a Predator. Nothing like loosing a hunderd pounds, eh?

hey pred,

do you think that my current setup is good enough, or should I look into getting more motor work done. I did forget to mention in my last post that the jug is ported also. I need to pay for some suspension upgrades, so If I could wait off on doing engine work for a while, I'd like to.

I've got nearly the same mods as you. Stock jug, 68mm bore, MX ported, 38 A/S carb, Rad Valve, etc... I also added an ESR head so I could up the compression to 225 psi. That helps with the low end alot, but I gotta run race gas now.

THe biggest thing for me though, was the suspension. The Elkas all around, +3+1 arms, and +4 axle helped the cornering and overall handling HUGE. I'd say do that before any more motor work.

glad to hear not all are brainwashed by the elka hype that seems to run rampid in the full size quad industry / sport ...my preference will always be PEPs :)

Damn people. I gave him Elka as a SUGGESTION. Ease up! I'm running Elka because I got the entire system for $800 and it's a HUGE improvement over the STOCK stuff that was on there. Geeze!

Actually, I've been very happy with these shocks. They've saved my ass on more than one occasion!

i dont think anyone has ever said elkas are the best. theyre "hyped" up because you can get then in 2 weeks, and they cost a fraction of PEP's and axis. 80% of the people out there cant outride elkas, so why wait and pay for the other guys? its not like elkas suck. there are better shocks, but elkas are a hard deal to beat.

PEPs may be one of the best but they look like they were made in 1985. Mark Baldwin told me that their new piggybacks are over $1800. That is wack!
