I recently did a trade and aquired an 88 250r. I have not tinkered with it yet. The bike starts right up and sounds great, idles great and sounds tight. I took it for its first test run and it just seems like it should have more. I can only compare this to a quadracer 250 that I had for awhile. The bike has a uni air filter with the lid removed, and fmf gold pipe. I was told it was jetted, but have yet to pull the carb and confirm. I was also told the bike had not been ridden much in the past 2 years, but it did not feel like it had a dirty carb. Im thinking the jetting has not been dialed in correctly.

With the basic mods i described, can anybody give me some suggestions on the proper jetting? I live in maryland at about 500-1000 ft altitude. Would a rad valve help? Also, it has a barnett clutch in it and the clutch pull is rather hard. It doesnt bother me, but I like the buttery smooth light clutch pull.

Suggestions are very much appreciated!!

also have you checked your compression? thats one of the first things i would do. do a plug chop too to see where your jetting is at.
this is the first thing you should do.
and for the clutch if it has the heavy duty springs it is going to say stiff for a long time. mine two or three years old and still stiff i just keep a spare clutch cable with me when i ride i broke a few.
