Hello All,
I am a new member and the proud new owner of a mint '87 TRX 250R. I have been riding and building dune banshees for the past 10 or so years so I am fully versed in 2 stroke performance. I recently sold my Banshee wanting to try something new so of course I opted for a 250R. I'm wondering what kind of advice you guys can give on what I can do to this stock motor to make it run with or beat the Banshee crowd I ride with.

Basically they all have 4 mill drag ported motors in stock chassis. I know it may be a stretch to be able to beat them, but any advice would be greatly appreciated. All this thing has right now is an FMF pipe and that aint gonna get the job done, LOL

Thanks in advance for any advice you might have!!

-Mike

what do you want to accomplish with this bike is the question you have to ask your self first. I like beating up on the banshee's but I ride a Honda because of the way they handle is vastly superior to any banshee. Build a Puma cylinder based 250 r motor of the same displacement as your banshee cub crowd (assume they run gas for fuel) and you will be right in there but be ready to lose all the ridability a fun dune 250r gives you and the reason why most people ride them.

If you want a drag bike, buy another banshee. If you want a bike that when your banshee buddies see you riping it up with killer bottom end, fun quick turning response turning, great suspension, and everything you want in a great all around machine want one especially when they hop on it and see what they are missing, put a motor together somewhere between 330-370 cc's and have fun with it. You will never do this with a banshee, especially one like your buddies have set up.

Thanks for the advise guys, really appreciate it. I don't want to go back to a Banshee, really want to get into this 250R. Basically want to be fast at the dunes, little drag racing and still stay trail rideable.

What I had in my last Banshee was basically a dune ported stock stroke stock cylinder and it ran fine with them. Would just like to get this 250 up to that performance. Should I go with a big bore cylinder and stroker crank? Who is best to buy all of this from? Who is the best to have port work done by?

I had a banshee setup about like yours, port job and dmc pipes etc...and my r with a 350 power valve will smoke it. Its awesome on trails and handles 10x better than the banshee.

Mines a pro x cylinder. You can get them from ct racing or ESR

Tell me a horsepower number that your wanting, and I can point you in the right direction. Banshee builds can be tricky, cause a stock cylinder 4 mil with tripple port on race gas can put down 75 rwhp quite easily.

You can't even start your own bike! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) ... LOL... It's no wonder why my right leg is 30% larger that my left (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) .. I vote on a smaller puma for duning and giving those 4mils a fit..
