their are a lot of videos on youtube i found this one to be the most helpful because he is very descriptive in what he's doing. now your shock is not the same but it should give you a general idea of how to dissemble it. only use 5 weight oil. when you reassemble the shock make sure you put enough oil in that it overflows when you insert the shaft the idea is that you dont want any air in the body. its really not that difficult just take your time and have your dad help if you can.

It may not be as simple as changing the oil. You probably don't even know what weight those things are valved for. Not knowing the prior history I would send them off to here - ATC 350X TRX 250R 400EX REAR SHOCK REBUILD SERVICE CR Y | eBay. I've personally used him and not only is he completely reasonable on price the quality was excellent. I had a stock shock rebuilt and he wanted to know my weight and how long the swing arm was. He gained me just shy of 2" of travel and put the appropriate spring on for my weight.

And trust me when I say that you can have the best shocks in the world but if they aren't setup for your weight, you'll either bottom out like hell or feel like your shocks are 2x4's and ride like a buck board. Seriously if you plan on keeping that bike send them off (where ever) and get those things rebuilt and valved for your weight. And another thing is if the shocks have any type of adjustment - improperly adjusted shocks can feel like having bad shocks

all shocks today use 5 weight oil ask any shock builder out their. only some shocks from the 70's use 10 weight oil you will be fine with the 5. try the oil change yourself first it will only cost you $10 for a quart of oil and your time. besides you'll learn something
