    elka versus works

Hi, this is kind of like my other thread on a-arms. I just playride and mainly just ride trails I weigh about 220. I'm looking for entry level up to maybe like a stage two type of shock to go along with plus 2 arms. would you recommend elka or works? thanks

Elka are a little more costly But you would be much happier with them...

Either...more important IMO is who you are working with, the relationship developed, and ease of contact. All premium shocks are good; the difference is how they are set-up for your application, riding abilty and who your contact is and their technical ability . We use Works primaraly because they are 45 minutes away and the ease for us to get custom shocks built without going through hoops or making long distance calls.

Works are nice, I have them on my R with plus 2 arms. Perfectly fine for a play rider, but if you really want the best shock, IMO Elkas are the better shock.

I have the Elkas on my Quadzilla. They seem like a quality shock. I tried to order from Works twice, they move at a snails pace over there. The Elkas only take 2 weeks to get.

I have to say that the standard works AT Steelers are some fine shocks. I've talked to Sandie numerous times at Works and he was always happy to answer questions. Yes they do take a little while to get your shock if buying direct, I believe 4 to 6 weeks but they do have an eBay store where you can get them quicker.

Never delt with Elka or their customer service but I'm sure its a fine shock as well.

keep tour eyes open as there are some great deals out there on shocks and it can save you a ton over buying new.

The shocks are only as good as the springs and valving inside them. I got my Elkas new direct from them. Didn't seem that great. Got them revalved by elka on my dime. Still not that great. Had the rear revalved by Noleen J6. It is now better than ever. Bolted it up, rode it. Adjust the rebound two clicks. Perfect. Elka's valving stinks.

I currently own both shocks, Elka and Works but it all comes down to dollars you have in your pocket. I believe quality wise Elka are better but you will have to send them back to have revalved mine were way to hard when I got them.
Works on the other hand are a bit more inexpensive and company is here in US. But both can be made to almost mirror them self in performance it all just again depends how much you are willing to spend. But I give the nod to Works when I have them serviced parts are readily available or when a bushing breaks Works is only a few hours away so I can get a bushing quickly.

How much is a set of " stage one" works? Elkas are only $450ish.
