My 450 shocks were just under 16.5" and my balljoints were maxed out on stock a-arms. A 16.5" shock will work for a +2 or +3 a-arm but not stock unless they have a zps spring. I don't weigh as much as you but I never broke 1/2 the travel on the shocks(and I tried jumping) My concern is that all those stiff shocks did was stress the frame. No way could I ever bottom them out. Even on a trx450 those are some rough riding shocks.

I just bought a new set of the HLS shocks that are 16" in length from gt thunder. They are reasonably priced and I was guaranteed that they will perform well with the custom valving. I have yet to ride them but will soon. You can buy them used on ebay very reasonable also.

Here is a set and I bet laz will respring for your weight for free.

Get a good knowledgeable builder to spec your shocks based on your weight, riding style or application and ability. We work closely with Works on custom orders, some of our custom shocks Works build for us are specially valved, with custom made springs not available commercially...they are the same set-ups used by top Pro riders in 85-95.

A few other shock specialty houses offer almost the same product under a different brand or name; work with someone locally that you can trust to tune your suspension system...will make all the difference in performance.

stock length is 16.375" so are 450r shocks. The 450r shocks are stiffer due to the fact that the 450r is heavier than a 250r, and the 450r shock is setup for aggressive race ride. With +2 or + 3 ext arms on a 250, the 450r shock works well. The added leverage does soften them up. I am currently working on a spring kit (triple rates) to be added to a 450r shock to make them plush with our +2 and +3 arms. Look for them hopefully closer to summer.
