Question Anyone Serve in the military?

Hey just wondering if anyone served time in the Military, im 21 and its about that time i get going in life and get my 4yrs done in the service to set me up later down the road, I take the ASVAB tomorrow , did anyone take that? any info on it ? I plan on trying for the Coast Guard but that seems to be very difficult to get into, the hardest service actually to get into but if not that ill probally go navy and fight iran, ; / hope not but it looks like its inefitable. If anyone has any info on what they think of the service and the experience they had + what it did for them would be great to hear. Gonna be pretty dam hard to leave my Wife and family but if itll help me in the long run, gotta do what ya gotta do.. Thanks.

Everyone that has done military time has taken the ASVAB. Not very hard at all. Almost all of it is common sense. Just take your time and read the question carefully. I know several people that have done bad enough to not get accepted into the Army in any job. You want to do the best you possibly can on it. The better you do the more job options you will have. I did 6 years in the AF. Worked with the UAVs the last 2 1/2 years I was in, that fly everywhere from major battlefields to all the ones no one knows about. Forecasted weather for them. Worked out of Creech AFB NV and forecasted world wide from there. Nothing like having every video in front of your face from all UAVs on the AF side in front of your face. And there is nothing better than watching a 500lb bomb or a hellfire dropped on a terrorists head. Best six years of my life. It goes by quickly to say the least. All Branches (except army AF supports and does weather for them) has weather forecasters. All of them go through Tech School at Keesler AFB in MS. One of the longer Tech Schools there is. But good luck and it will be a decision that you will not regret if you are a creature of habit and respect people in charge. Enjoy.

i have never personally joined but i am a military brat so i know more then others. my dad is retired navy and still works for the government. we moved quite a bit and my dad was gone alot. your family will get use to it. it sounds bad but i feel a military family is a tuff one. i'm not going to go on and on about bad things because i believe the good out weighs the cons. all jobs have there good and bad points civilian and military alike. just do your best on the ASVAB and try to choose a job that you can use after you get out of the military. my dad was in AO (Aviation Ordnance) and had a hard time finding a job after he retired. in the end he lucked out. he scored a job with the DOD doing ordnance at KMCB. till this day my dad has his military privileges along with many other benifits vets can recieve. the list goes on and on.

my youngest brother just left for the AF yesterday. his boot camp is in Texas and arrived this morning. a sad day but i am very happy for him. he scroed way high on the ASVAB so he got to pick pretty much what ever he wanted to do. hes getting into the medical field or IT. he will find out which school opens first his 2nd week into basic.

best of luck to you. you never know, you may like it and choose to stay in longer then 4 years.
quick vid of my bros small going away party. after the first 30secs its boring. skip to 3:00

I was F-16 Avionics - C shop. Stationed in Torrejon Spain before the war.

Between the Illinois veterans grant and the GI bill my degree cost me nothing.

USAF 1986-89 as an armament systems specialist/weapons load crew member on the FB-111 stationed at Plattsburg, NY and Portsmouth, NH. Great experience and it teaches you a lot about discipline, responsibility and respect for authority.

You know any crewchiefs that were at TJ? I have a few friends that were there during that time. Also, I have a good friend that was at Plattsburg during that time...a crewchief as well.

This is one of the great things about the military...you will meet, work, live, laugh, cry with some of the most amazing people from all over this great country! Sure, not everyday is a Disney story but you remember all the great times and laugh about those days you were stuck working the line for 12+ hours getting jets ready, in the rain, with no rain gear!!!!
