Im kinda in, just a part timer though. Right now im with 2-19th SFG outta WV.
You were asking about renting and such, if you are active duty you will be given a housing allowence which is based upon the area you are stationed. FT bragg right now I think for under E5 and married you would be looking at right around 1000 a month just for housing plus your base pay etc. My brother in law is in the coast guard stationed in charleston, sc and he gets around 1000 for housing too. You really shouldnt have an issue finding a place to live. I know at Bragg there is a good selection of off base housing. Brother and law got into the coast guard with like a 65 overall on his asvab. But that was in 07 I think.
On a side note, props for you Rangers. Ran around with some of you guys overseas. You sure have fun over there lol.
man all these ppl on this site and nobody in the same position i am.. im on deployment right now as i type this.. im sittin next to a LM2500 in an engine room on a destroyer thats woopin ass on pirates.. pretty crazy times right now.. i read a couple of ur questions.. i can tell you that if you join the navy you do not want to be a boatswains mate.. thats the hardest job in the navy bro.. also you wana look at the bigger picture when joining the navy.. it takes time and tests against lots of other ppl to advance.. so you dont get paid any more to do a certain job.. so you wana pick a fun job that your gona do for 4 years.. also doesnt matter what you do in the military.. its hard to convert it back to real world jobs.. like cop or fire fighter or electronics stuff.. think about how many ppl do that everyday.. gunners mates just work on guns so if ur into that its a cool job.. theres like 20 of em on my ship now.. ohh and the cop in the navy is called master at arms.. and you get whats called BAH for being married.. basic housing allowance.. if ur married you get a good bit of money.. i am not married and i have been in over 2 years and i am e-4.. i make round 1000 bucks every two weeks.. if ur married youll make double what i make.. roughly.. uhhh lots of questions and answers.. im on deployment for a long time so if you want i can give you my email and you can email me some questions.. if you need to.. not many ppl come off this site for questions.. and i know alot about the navy and what you should and shouldnt do.. believe me im dealing with it right now.. and i know what I should have done.. lol.. fellerpt@ddg92.navy.mil and my name is pat.. hit me up if you need to man..
I have been in the army reserves for 8 years. I have been to both Iraq and Afghanistan, and I will tell you the army was the best decision I ever made for myself. I met my wife in the army and some of my best friends. You will never experience anything like it. I am now a SSG in a combat engineer company. Wear else can you get paid to shoot guns and blow stuff up. Not to sound like a complete redneck but man what a good time. The military opens so man doors for a person it is un real. There is airborne and air assault schools , calmative’s and mountain warfare. The possibilities are endless.
In short the best decision I have made. Any questions about the army or army reserves feel free to shoot me a PM..
I salute all you that have served from the bottom of my heart to risk it all so we can all enjoy our freedom. Thank you!! the news media needs to watch this thread and do a story on this that people enlist alot of time because they want to not that there forced to.
Ahh but what political gains are made with the truth?
